Missing Journal Entry Option

I've created a new company file in QBO and noticed that there is no option to create Journal Entries. When I click on the + New it's not listed under Other like it is for my other company files. I've tried logging into QBO with a private browser and it's still missing. Using Chrome as my browser. Any suggestions? Help.

Missing Journal Entry Option

I'm glad you came here, dhutto.

It's possible that your User View is set as Business View reason why you're not seeing an option to create a Journal Entry. You'll want to modify your setting in the Advance tab as Accountant View to have this option.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Account and Settings.
  2. Choose the Advance tab.
  3. From the User view section, select Accountant view.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Then, Done.

Another way to create a Journal Entry is through your register. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the right top.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts under Your Company.
  3. Locate the account where you want to post the JE and click View register under Action.

  4. Hit the add transaction ▼ drop-down, then choose Journal Entry.
  5. Enter the date, ref no, payee, account, and amount.
  6. Click Save.

I am in business view and I do not see mine either. I do not believe this is the true issue.  I was online for 4 hours with QBO and they had no idea either.

Here's what I did - So easy you'll wonder why?  Go to your home page and click on Chart of Accounts.  See if your bank account is listed.  If it's not then at the bottom check the box Include inactive.    If the bank account has an "x" next to it then it means it somehow got checked as an inactive account.  So uncheck it and your Journal entry page should come up.

Try using the QB Software and see if you can see the same or get the help of QB Support Team .

Thanks so much!

A few other questions.  We have a third party that does our payroll, I would like to import the payroll entry from an excel file and or iif file if I can get from payroll co each pay and import into quick books.

Also, I need to get American Express monthly statements and monthly boa visa statements uploaded into Quickbooks.

I need to set up standard monthly entries, too, for example depreciation, prepaid insurance, real estate taxes etc.  what’s best way to do that?

Thanks in advance for your help!

detailed instructions would be wonderful !

Missing Journal Entry Option

I can help you with the questions you need assistance with, mpatterson.

We're unable to import payroll entries into QuickBooks Online. Some payroll services let you import paycheck data directly into QuickBooks. If your service doesn't have this feature, we’ll show you how to manually track these payments as journal entries. You can use this link for more details about manually entering payroll paychecks in QuickBooks Online.

To bring your statements or list of transactions in your bank accounts, you can either connect the bank to QuickBooks to automatically download transactions or manually import them into banking.

I'll be attaching articles that will help you manage your monthly entries such as depreciation or real estate taxes:

I recommend reaching out to an accountant so they can help you select the correct account when entering these entries.

Let me know if you have other questions. Tae care and have a great day!
