My business is online, I do not own a vehicle and do not need to. Tax filing seems to have a mandatory step with a pre vehicle configured. How can I remove it?

Thanks for checking out the Community space, thomas-seillan-g. I'm here to ensure that you can file taxes smoothly.

Currently, there isn't a way to bypass this process. QuickBooks Self-Employed requires you to enter vehicle information to complete your tax return.

Since you don't use or own one, you'll want to enter sample or dummy details. This won't affect your estimated taxes since there are no vehicle-related expenses categorized and trips entered in the program. Here's how:

  1. Click the Profile icon, then choose Vehicle info.
  2. Pick a tax year, then add the name and year of the vehicle.
  3. Set the cost and estimated business miles to zero.
  4. Select an ownership status, then fill out the other necessary fields.
  5. When you're done, hit Save.

Additionally,  I recommend reading our QuickBooks Self-Employed Annual Tax Guide for self-employed individuals, freelancers, and independent contractors to help you prepare for the tax season.

Would this affect the taxes on TurboTax when importing my QuickBooks? I am currently blocked because of the vehicle. TurboTax asks for information that I don't have (my vehicle doesn't exist) in order to let me e-file.

I appreciate you joining the thread, marrrria. I ensure you can file your taxes in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

In this case, you'll want to categorize your transaction correctly to send your tax summary without including your vehicle profile.

The possible reason why the system is asking for vehicle information is that you have transactions that are categorized under travel expenses. That way, the system will think you own a vehicle since travel expense is still a part of a vehicle expense.

To verify, we can pull up your Profit and Loss report. Once verified and you find transactions, you need to change the category under travel expenses to other business expenses to resolve your concern.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Profit and Loss.
  2. Click View, then choose the amount of the category to view its transactions.

You can modify this report by clicking the BusinessAccount, and Dates drop-down.

You can read this article for your reference: Categorizing & Editing Transactions.

Keep me updated if you have any questions about managing taxes in QBSE. I'll be around. Take care!
