My payroll won't submit and it says: Something you're trying to use has been made inactive. Check the fields with accounts, customers, items, vendors or employees.

Let me help you fix this concern so that you can pay your employees, @singlesourcecolo.

It could be that there was an inactive employee, vendor, customer, or account in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This is the reason why you're getting this kind of error message when submitting your payroll in QuickBooks.

We can check your Audit log to see if there are reports that we can link to these changes. Here are the steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Under Tools, click Audit Log.
  3. Click the Filter drop-down menu, choose All User under User drop-down list.
  4. Select All Dates from the Date drop-down list.
  5. Under Events, select Show only these events and check the Lists box.
  6. Click Apply.

You can view all the edited employees, customers, vendors, and accounts on this page. If you see an asterisk before the employee's name, that indicates that they have been made inactive. For customers and vendors, you'll see (deleted) after their names.

Once you have found what has been deleted, let's make it active and then submit your payroll again. If you're unable to make them active, or if you see that nothing has been deleted, please contact Customer Support. They have the special tools to help conduct a deeper investigation of what's causing this error.

To ensure we address your concern on time, you can check out our support hours.

Please reach out to us for other concerns about QBO Payroll. We'll be there to provide you further assistance.
