Need to be able to include purchasing information on my products and services, as they are purchased from a vendor. Where can I add this information?

When I go to: Sales > Products and Services > select "Edit" under Action menu, there is not a section for "Purchasing information" at all, nor is there a box to check acknowledging that "this product/service is purchased by a vendor".

I'm here to ensure you can add purchasing info on your items, hayley-ucd.

 

To do this, I'd suggest following the steps below to add the purchasing details. I've also attached a screenshot for your visual reference.

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select the Products and services tab.
  2. Find the product or service on the list and select Edit in the Action column.
  3. Select I purchase this product/service from a vendor.
  4. Add a description. This shows on bills, purchase orders, and other forms you send to vendors.
  5. Enter the Cost.
  6. Select the Expense account ▼ drop-down menu and then the account you use to track the cost of things you sell.
  7. Choose your preferred vendor.
  8. When you're done, click on Save and close.

 

In case the issue persists, let's access your account via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if there's an issue with the browser. 

 

Here are the keyboard shortcuts: 

 

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N 
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P 

Once signed in, please follow the steps above. If it works, let's clear the browser's cache. This helps remove its stored cache so QuickBooks will perform efficiently.

 

 

If it doesn't work, I'd recommend using different browsers. They'll provide you the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

 

Additionally, you can run reports in QuickBooks to see your sales and inventory status. This helps you keep track of your best sellers, what’s on hand, the cost of goods, and more.

Hello,

 

Yes, I understand where these options should be, however they are simply not there. The entire section for "purchasing information", including the check box for "I purchase this service/product from a vendor" is missing entirely. I have not found any information that this is typical of my version of quickbooks, and have been told it should be present regardless of what version. I use quickbooks online, FYI.

Thank you for posting here in the Community. Allow me to step in and help provide additional information about the Product/Service description in QuickBooks Online.

 

We're unable to see the I purchase this product/service from a vendor checkbox if you're using the Simple Start or Essentials version of QuickBooks Online. However, we can upgrade to either Plus or Advance so you can use the Purchasing information checkbox.

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Products and Services.
  2. Find the product or service, then select Edit.
  3. In the Purchasing information section, select the I purchase this product/service from a vendor checkbox.
  4. Click Save.

To upgrade your account, here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon ⚙ and click Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Billing & Subscription menu.
  3. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade
  4. Choose the plan you want, and select Upgrade.
  5. Confirm your payment information and select Save.
