Good day, acamis78.
When a browser stored a lot of caches, it could cause problems like bringing up the information or latency issue. As an initial step, you can press the F5 key on your keyboard to refresh the page.
If you're still getting the same result, let's open your account in an incognito window and see if it works for you. Private browsing prevents cookies from being stored on your computer, making it a great place to identify browser issues. Use these keyboard shortcuts:
Once logged in, go back to your invoice and sales receipt templates and change the text from there. If it rectifies the problem, clear the browser's cache. Clearing the history or log of sites resolves most issues with the web pages.

Dear Rose thank you for your prompt and comprehensive reply. However I tried all those things, cleared full history/cache/site preferences, opened private browser window and again alterations to the Invoice Template footer text (the "Message to Customer" section - so the upper section of the two) also changed the Sales Receipt template text - without me doing anything - and this occurs the other way around too. One is a sales receipt template and the other is an Invoice template. They are each recorded as "default" but they are not the "master" which seemingly cannot be deleted (leaving just my preferred default invoice as default and master).
I also set up a Card Payer Name field the other day in the Sales Receipt template and I notice today that field (which is only a part of the Sales Receipt template and does not actually appear in the others when printed/PDF) does also appear on the preview of the form in the master invoice template, the default Invoice template and in the Sales Receipt template. So this shows the forms are somehow linked - and linked incorrectly.
As a suggestion - you know my login/account details so why can't you take a look and see precisely what I mean? There is really little point of your detailed reply when it has not solved the issue and misleads other readers into thinking that this is the fix and that maybe I my issue as descibed was not really occurring - when in fact it is (and still is).
Some attachments showing what I am talking about are included.
I look forward to hearing your suggestion to fix this.
Thank you again.
Thanks for getting back to this thread and following the steps provided by my colleague, @acamis78.
I've replicated the steps that you've made and found out that sometimes the system automatically copies the footer text in the first template to the next one that you've created.
However, you can still go back to these templates and edit them manually. Here's how:
If you're still getting the same issue, I recommend importing custom form styles for your sales template. This way, you can create a unique identity for each sales forms.

Thanks - that is what I have already been doing - I have been editing the Invoice or Sales Receipt template but when changing the "message to customer" text in one template that same text change automatically flows through and changes the other template in the message to customer - so it makes the text the same for invoice and sales receipt - but of course I want different text.
I don't really want to import Word file templates, etc as I am happy with what we have EXCEPT for this text "message to customer" issue. Why are the two templates linked (when they should be and do appear separate) and how can I unlink them? Is it a problem with the original Master invoice and how can I delete or replace that Master if it might be causing the problem? I don't think your answer truly acknowledges that your system surely is not meant to be working with the problem I describe - so how do I fix it? Really we need to understand what is causing the problem and then perhaps do things in a new way/delete current things and start again to fix it - does that make sense?
Hello there, @acamis78.
Let me share some additional information about customizing invoice template in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Once you create or update the invoice message, the changes will also affect other invoice templates on the Custom form styles list.
I understand how convenient for you to customize the invoice message that will not affect the other templates created.
Finding new ways to adapt to our customers’ needs is how QuickBooks gets even better. I'll make sure to take note of this and will update you once we receive a product enhancement update about this feature.
In the meantime, I'd recommend importing your own template. It will allow you to have a more personalized template to use when emailing your transactions.
Also, I'd suggest visiting our QuickBooks Online Blog regularly. This way, you'll be updated with the latest news and updates including product improvements.
Don't hesitate to drop a comment below if you have other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Take care!
