Hi there, @kris23.

Let's go to your customer list and make sure the Include inactive is not selected. This way, inactive customers will not show in the customer list. Let me show you how.

In your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select the Customers tab.
  2. Click the small gear icon at the top of the customer list.
  3. Unselect Include inactive2.PNG

I got you this article that you can read for additional reference in managing your customer list: Manage your customer list.

In case you need to merge your customers and vendors, you can check this article for the detailed steps: How to merge accounts, customers, and vendors.

This did not work for me. "Include Inactive" is unchecked, but I'm still seeing deleted customers/sub-customers in the side panel under customers and leads. This issue is brand new for me as of today (June 1, 2023). This was not happening when I was submitting invoices yesterday (May 31, 2023).

How do we get "(deleted)" customers not to show up in the customer quick-search side bar?

Hello there, @Life Uhv Riley. I'm here to help and make sure the customer list won't include the deleted customers' profiles in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start, I recommend logging out and logging back into your QBO account, as it will help refresh the data in your account.

If the issue persists, one of the possible reasons why you're having trouble logging in can sometimes be caused by a stored cache and cookies in your browser.

Let's try accessing your QBO account through an incognito window to determine if it's a browser-related issue. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

Once you're in incognito mode, revisit the website to log into your QBO account and check the Customers & leads menu to see if it excludes deleted customers. If it works, you can go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.

Additionally, you may refer to this article on how to view all sales transactions statuses on the Sales page: View sales transactions.

Let me know in the comments below if you have additional questions or other QuickBooks concerns. We'll gladly have you back here and assist you further. Have a great day!
