Opening Balance for credit card at $0 after moving from Desktop to Online

I'm trying to reconcile my credit card after I switched from Desktop to Online. However, the beginning balance shows a zero balance. My transactions transferred. How do I fix this? Do a General Ledger or something?

Glad to know all the transactions are migrated successfully, bnan.

Since there's no opening balance, let's create a journal entry. We'll have to use your bank statement to ensure the balance is correct. Beforehand, take note of the date and amount of the oldest transaction in the account for accurate tracking.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the +New button.
  2. Select Journal entry under Other.
  3. Enter a date that comes before the oldest transaction in the account.
  4. On the first line from the Account drop-down menu, select the account you want to add to the opening balance.
  5. On the second line from the Account drop-down menu, select Opening Balance Equity.
  6. Use your bank statements to enter the opening balance. Note: Enter the balance of your real-life account for the date you picked as the opening balance.
  7. Enter the debits and credits based on the type of account you entered on the first line.

Then, let's reconcile the journal entry to prevent it from showing up on a future reconciliation:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping or Accounting, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account and select View register from the Action column.
  3. Search for the journal entry you just created. Select it to expand the view.
  4. Select the box in the checkmark column until you see an R. This reconciles the journal entry.
  5. Once done, select Save.

I'd also recommend reaching out to an accountant for further advice on fixing the beginning balance issue in QuickBooks.

Opening Balance for credit card at $0 after moving from Desktop to Online

I think this happens because all transactions are converted with an unreconciled status no matter what the status was in QB Desktop.  No idea why that is the case, but it's been reported here many times as an issue.

@CharleneMaeF   RE: Since there's no opening balance, let's create a journal entry.

The customer never stated that there wasn't an opening balance.  They said the starting balance in reconcile is 0.00, which is completely different. Which you should know.

RE: We'll have to use your bank statement to ensure the balance is correct.

The customer is asking about a credit card account. Credit cards accounts do not feature bank statements, since they're not bank accounts. Which you should know.
