P&L Multiple Years

Is it possible to run a P&L YTD across multiple years. I only seem to be able to look at two years at a a time. I would love to be able to look at 4 or 5 years of data.

Yes, you can run a standard P&L across multiple years.  At the top of the report, select Year in the Show Columns box.  What you lose is the comparison columns, but if you click on Customize Report, you can check the box for % of row to see what percentage of a category came from each year.

Re: P&L Multiple Years

I see how to compare whole years but i'm specifically looking for year to date. For example. I want to compare sales for YTD 2019 vs the same period in 2018, 2017, 2016 all on the same report.

Re: P&L Multiple Years

Hi there, @BTHMN!

Let's customize your Profit & Loss Standard report so you can compare your Year-To-Date sales from 2016 to 2019.

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Select Company & Financial.
  3. Choose Profit & Loss Standard.
  4. Click Customize Report.
  5. Under Dates, select Custom.
  6. Select 2016 - 2019 dates in the From and To field.
  7. From the Display columns by drop-down menu, select Year.
  8. Choose Year-To-Date from the Add subcolumns for options.
  9. Click OK.

This way, you can show all your Year-To-Date sales from 2016 up to this year. Also, here's a screenshot for your visual reference.

Re: P&L Multiple Years

Thanks for the feedback. I just tried the instructions below but I get each whole year compared to the next, not the year to date period comparisons I am looking for. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. I included a screen shot of the report settings per the instructions from Jonpril_L

Re: P&L Multiple Years

Thank you for sharing the results after following the steps I've outlined above, @BTHMN.

Let's pull up your Profit & Loss YTD Comparison report for each year, export and open them as one Excel file.

To start with, exporting your report as an excel file allows you to combine them as one file. This way, you can compare all your Year-To-Date sales from 2016 up until today.

That being said, here's how you can pull up your Profit & Loss YTD Comparison:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Select Company & Financial.
  3. Choose Profit & Loss YTD Comparison.
  4. Enter the appropriate date in the Dates field.
  5. Click Excel.
  6. Select Create New Worksheet.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about exporting your report to Excel: Export Report from QuickBooks Desktop to Microsoft Excel.

Lastly, you can check out this helpful article for your future reference: Export Option for Excel is Grayed Out.

It'll be always my pleasure to help if you have any other questions. I'll be keeping an eye for your response.

Re: P&L Multiple Years

So the answer to the original question is, no, quickbooks cannot provide the requested report. If I am looking at ytd figures regularly per your method I would have to export multiple reports to excel and combine them each time I wanted to review the data. Not very efficient.
