Re: QB is not letting me add my first Contractor. After I press the Add Your First Contractor but...

Hello villageofthevall,

Let's add the contractor from the Vendors tab. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Expenses.
  2. Select Vendors.
  3. Click on New vendors.
  4. Enter the contractor's information.
  5. Check the Track payments for 1099 box.
  6. Click on Save.

Once done, the information will be saved on the Contractors page. You can go ahead and edit the contractors info from there.

  1. Go to the Workers tab.
  2. Select Contractors.
  3. Click on the contractor's name.
  4. Click on the Add link.
  5. Select Individual.
  6. Enter the information.
  7. Click on Save.

Hello villageofthevall,

Getting unresponsive results after setting up QuickBooks Online can be a cause by a browser-related issue.

Let's use a private browser when adding your first contractor. Or, use another supported browser. If you're using Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+N.

If it gets to work, please clear the browser history. It deletes unwanted data that's preventing QuickBooks Online from making some changes.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried that and the same result. It just 'freezes' the page after I enter the contractor name and email. Any other suggestions?

Thank you! How do I now add the W9 information?

Re: QB is not letting me add my first Contractor. After I press the Add Your First Contractor but...

Greetings, @villageofthevall,

You can enter the information you have from the W-9 to your vendor's profile.

From the Contractors tab, you can add the vendor personal details as mentioned by my colleague in this thread.

Let me guide you through on how to accomplish this:

  1. Select Workers from the left menu, then select Contractors.
  2. Click the name of the vendor.
  3. Click Add.

  4. Select Individual or Business for the Contractor type, then enter the W-9 info.

  5. Click Save.

Once done setting up your vendor information, you can then write a check so you can track expenses.

Keep me posted if there's anything else you need with adding your first contractor in QBO. I'd be glad to help.
