Help!!

I cannot create the Accountants copy. After verify, rebuild data, the error is still there. I bypass as it says I can, the export window comes up as if it's beginning the backup, then  my MAC freezes so my only option is to restart my Mac. Which starts the process all over again.

Help has arrived, @pccdan.

I'd like to ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac stops crashing so you'll be able to create an accountants copy.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac releases updates to improve the program functionality. You can fix the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Before doing so, you need to make sure the system is updated to its latest release.

To do that:

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

Once done, let's proceed with uninstalling and reinstalling your QuickBooks. In case you're using the CD to install the product, make sure you have it handy along with your license numbers.

Once ready, follow these steps to uninstall:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Finder menu.
  3. Select Go Applications.
  4. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash.
  5. Reinstall the latest version.

After that, reinstall the latest version. Here's how:

  1. Go to QuickBooks Product Updates.
  2. Select your QuickBooks Desktop version.
  3. Click Download to download the installer file to your computer.
  4. Double-click the downloaded .dmg file.
  5. Drag the QuickBooks Desktop icon to the Applications folder to install. Then, restore your company file in QuickBooks.

You can verify the update by pressing the Cmd+1.

Moreover, if the issue persists after performing the steps above, you can do a clean install. This refreshes QuickBooks with the installation files that were left behind during the re-installation process. For the detailed steps, kindly refer to this article: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using clean install.

Right after, you can start creating an accountant's copy again.

To do that:

  1. Open the company file you want to share.
  2. Choose File and hit on Save File for Accountant.
  3. Click Verify (recommended) or Skip Verify.
  4. Once QuickBooks tells you that the verification is successful, name the converted file and navigate to where you want to save it.
  5. Press on Save.
  6. QuickBooks will prompt you to create a password to protect your company file.
  7. Enter a password or, if you don’t want to password-protect the file, leave the fields blank.
  8. Select on OK. QuickBooks will create a QuickBooks backup file (.qbb file extension). You can click Show File in Finder to locate the file on your Mac.

Know that we recommend that you and your accountant be on the same version of QuickBooks. So, if you are using QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2019, your accountant should be on some 2019 version of QuickBooks for Windows. Also, you cannot work in your company file while your accountant has it.

For more insights about this process, please see the page 22 on this user guide: Exchanging your file with your accountant.

Keep me posted on how this turn out. My doors are always open to help if you need anything else. Have a lovely day!
