QBO not applying the amount from a bill to the customer when it is specified to do so. Instead QBO is applying the total of the bill even though all lines do not apply.

My problem I'm having is that QBO is applying the total amount of the bill to the 1 customer when only part of the bill applies to this 1 customer, the other half of the bill belongs to another customer. I have specified on the transaction line the amount to apply to the customer but QBO ignores it and applies the total bill amount to the 1 customer anyway. I solved the problem by creating two separate bills. I spoke with QB about this and they confirmed that QBO does not function as the desktop version.

Hi there, lisa64

I tried this on my end lisa64, and it works when applying the amount from a bill to the customer. Just make sure to put a check mark from the billable box to the line item you want to apply the bill.

I attached a screenshot for additional information.

If you still encounter the same issue, I recommend logging in your QuickBooks using incognito browser to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. Private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

There are times the browser keeps outdated Internet files that may cause QuickBooks Online to encounter unnecessary behavior when applying the amount from a bill to the customer

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using.

  • For Internet Explorer of Firefox, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, clear the cache of your regular browser. Doing this helps QBO to function more efficiently.

If the steps above will not work, you can use supported browser as alternatives.

Please check this article on how to add purchase order to a bill and other transactions like expense or check  in QuickBooks Online: Apply a purchase order to a vendor transaction.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success.
