QSW - Report template issues and is there a good link to 'how-to'

I have set up a custom balance sheet and income statement template in QSW and it is working the way I want it, expect for one issue.  I have 10 companies and I want to use the same template for each one and just refresh the data from QB.  That seems to work, except it is hiding some rows that have balances and although the totals are correct, some of the line item rows are hidden and I can't figure out why.  I've refreshed, closed out, etc.

Also, does anyone know of a good link to  a tutorial online?  Every time I click on a help within the QSW it  is general and I get the same link to a general QB website that has nothing to do with QSW.  Would love some detailed tutorials or manuals on how to use it as I'm just teaching myself as I go right now.

Thanks!

QSW - Report template issues and is there a good link to 'how-to'

Hi there, @syell.

Thank you for performing the steps mentioned by my colleague to further fix the unusual behavior of the rows on your report. Maybe the Excel version is the issue, I'd suggest checking it with your IT specialist to verify and help you get to the bottom of this.

Also, you can check out the system requirements to make the QuickBooks Desktop program to run smoothly: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise Solutions 20.0

QSW - Report template issues and is there a good link to 'how-to'

Hello there, @syell.

I can share with you some links about the QuickBooks Statement Writer (QSW) in QuickBooks Desktop. Before that, I'll give you the steps and recommended solutions that'll help you fix the performance issues when using the QSW.

To resolve the unusual behavior of some rows on your report, you can start by updating QuickBooks to the latest release. If you have the latest update, download the current version of QSW.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Statement Writer.
  2. Select Help Center, then Update.

Then, change the Windows settings.

  1. Change the regional settings in Windows.
  2. Change user settings (for Windows 7 only):
    • Enable User Account Control (UAC).
    • Make sure you are not running QuickBooks or Excel as an Administrator.
      1. Right-click the version of QuickBooks and/or Excel you are using from the Programs menu, then select Properties.
      2. Go to the Compatibility tab and make sure no boxes are checked.

Once completed, review and check the rows from there. If you need additional troubleshooting steps, you can open this article, then follow the instructions under Solution 4 to Solution 9.

As promised, here's an article you can read more about using and navigating QSW.

Let me know if you have any other questions about QuickBooks or reports. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!

QSW - Report template issues and is there a good link to 'how-to'

Thanks for the reply Angelyn!  When I update QSW, it tells me I have an update so I install it and it says it successfully installed.  However, every time I open QSW, I get the same message and the same update and no matter how many times I install it, it seems to think that I didn't.  Hmmm...

Also, when I open my template in Excel, I get a message that says the file format and extension don't match.  It is a .qsm extension.  When I go ahead and open it, it seems to function normally other than the hidden row problem.

I've gone through the other steps, thank you for the suggestions.  My Excel is Version 2009 so maybe that is the issue.
