1099 Summary shows non-1099 vendors

I'm trying to figure out which vendors I need to report with 1099-NEC, so I run a 1099 summary report. Under 1099 options I select ONLY 1099 VENDORS, ONLY 1099 ACCOUNTS, and USE THRESHOLDS.  The resulting report includes numerous vendors who should NOT get 1099s.

I've checked the the tax settings for each vendor, and verified that  "Vendor eligible for 1099" is NOT checked. Why are they showing up in the report?

This happens every year.  My workaround is: I make note of which vendors in the report actually should get 1099s, then I customize the report using a filter on "Names" to include only the vendors I specify.

What's the point of having an "Eligible for 1099" check-box in the vendor record if Quickbooks ignores it?

1099 Summary shows non-1099 vendors

Thank you for sharing the workaround, Lewis. I’m here to help ensure your report accurately reflects the correct 1099 vendors.

The presence of non-1099 vendors in your report may be due to the configuration of your account and the Chart of Accounts (COA) related to 1099 reporting. This can significantly affect how vendors are reported.

To begin, please ensure that both your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and payroll tax table are up to date. It’s also a good idea to create a backup of your company file as a precautionary measure in case we encounter any issues.

Next, let's verify your account settings:

  1. Go to Edit and select Preferences.
  2. Scroll down and choose Tax: 1099.
  3. Click on Company Preferences.
  4. Select the link labeled "you can do it here" under the 1099-NEC section
  5. In the dropdown, choose either Show 1099 accounts or Show all accounts.
  6. Please consult with your accountant to determine which accounts should be included or excluded from the 1099 report.
  7. Once you’ve made your selections, click Save & Close.1099.png

Then, please refer to this article to verify your COA's setting: Modify your chart of accounts for your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC filing.

If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team.

Also, you can refer to this article for more details about the boxes on Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC: Understand payment categories for the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

Additionally, you can memorize your reports to save your current customizations for future use.

Please let us know if you have further concerns with your 1099 reports in QBDT, Lewis. We're here to help you in any way we can.
