The automatic late fees feature is still under beta testing as mentioned by my colleagues. That being said, not all QBO users have the option yet.
Rest assured, this will be implemented to all customers in the coming months though we don’t have a specific time frame. Our Product Team is gathering data to ensure the function works for your advantage.
I’ll personally let you know if there are any changes by updating this thread. In the meantime, I recommend adding the fees as another line item on an existing invoice.

Months ago after lots of time on the phone, I got through to someone at Intuit support (Michael, case [removed]), who, after a bunch of research, told me that this should be implemented probably by end of July.
This is a hugely important issue; can you please dig a bit harder to get a more exact timeframe for rollout?
It's now September 2019, and I'm also very interested in implementing this feature. Is there any update on when this will be available, or an OPT IN for users like myself to join the Beta knowing that there may be minor bugs?

At this time, the automatic Late Fee calculation feature is currently under Beta Testing. Our Product Developers are currently testing this option before they fully release it.
However, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Online Support if ever you need help in the future that need to discuss sensitive information.

As of now, the Automatic Late Fee feature is still under Beta Testing. While the full implementation of this feature to all customers isn’t currently in our development road-map. We are working on big improvements that will be helpful for most of our customers, and you’ll see those rolling out soon.
In the meantime, you can create a service item for the Late Fee and manually add it to the Invoice or Sales Receipt.

First, thank you for finally implementing this feature. I remember when I worked for QBO at the launch of the Harmony design language that it was one of the most requested features. You rock!
Question though, it's been a year since the support article released discussing how to use it. If it's not on the roadmap for release and is still in beta, wouldn't it be prudent to mark that article accordingly? If it said Beta somewhere on it customers would feel less excluded than the current "some people have it, you don't" that is currently there. I know it doesn't say that verbatim, but it feels that way when reading it.

Allow me to step in and share some additional information about the Automatic Late Fee feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I'm glad that you already have the option to turn on the Automatic Late Fee feature in your QuickBooks account, which will help apply late fees conveniently.
When the automatic late fee feature implemented, our engineers created the article for additional reference to those customers, like yourself, who have this feature. Though, I appreciate your feedback to include the Beta information in the article. It will surely help our Development Team decide on how best to improve QuickBooks articles.

Yes, we don't have a specific time-frame yet as to when it'll be fully implemented. Meantime, you can add Late fees as a non-inventory or service item.

Thank you for the update and we appreciate that this is moving along quickly since it reflects very poorly on us and much more poorly so on your software when we have to scribble in a line item that says late fee after payment due date then try to keep it up to date when sending out reminder invoices.
Our engineers are working on this. However, they don't provide a turnaround time as to when this be implemented to all companies.
In the meantime, you can add the a late fee as another item on an invoice or create a separate transaction for it.

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't help and sounds like a broken record. Instead of answering my post, I would suggest you review the thread before providing your solution. This feature was released to a select few (BETA) over a year ago and almost every instance of inquiry is responded with the same useless solution. Please, just provide the feature.
I still believe QuickBooks is the best solution out there all things considered, which is why most of us will continue to use it.
ATTENTION All QuickBooks Support Staff: Please put yourselves in our shoes (customer service)

While at it, please also see if it is possible to provide another option to do a late fee run only at the end of the month instead of through the system automatically.

Those of you that do not have the BETA feature for automatic late fees available, should be grateful. It doesn't work - the fact is, the feature ruined about 50 of my online invoices by adding the $10 Late Fee to the late invoice and changing the Sales Tax from 8.25% to ~ 6.50 % - basically corrupting the invoice. In the attached screen shot, you can see where the City portion (1.75%) and the Mdd District portion (.25%) were dropped from the invoice. The state portion (6.25%) was updated from $9.38 to $10.00 and the Mdd portion added to the invoice, (changing from 38¢ to 40¢), but the City was entirely omitted.
