Re: Automatic Late Fees

How is there no option to tack on late fees automatically after the due date of the invoice – as many of us are saying, having to go back and do this manually is a total waste of our time. How can we get around this ASAP?

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Thanks for joining the conversation, @jbto.

The automatic late fees feature is still under beta testing as mentioned by my colleagues. That being said, not all QBO users have the option yet.

Rest assured, this will be implemented to all customers in the coming months though we don’t have a specific time frame. Our Product Team is gathering data to ensure the function works for your advantage.

I’ll personally let you know if there are any changes by updating this thread. In the meantime, I recommend adding the fees as another line item on an existing invoice.

You can follow the steps shared above as reference or check out this article: Enter late fees or finance and service charges on the invoice.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Months ago after lots of time on the phone, I got through to someone at Intuit support (Michael, case [removed]), who, after a bunch of research, told me that this should be implemented probably by end of July.

This is a hugely important issue; can you please dig a bit harder to get a more exact timeframe for rollout?

Re: Automatic Late Fees

I really wish I would have known this before switching from FreshBooks. They've had this feature for literally YEARS.

Following this - I do not understand how it takes this long to roll out this functionality.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

It's now September 2019, and I'm also very interested in implementing this feature. Is there any update on when this will be available, or an OPT IN for users like myself to join the Beta knowing that there may be minor bugs?

Re: Automatic Late Fees

This option appears to be missing in Quickbooks online. There is no late fee option under Account and Setting  - Sales.

This does not work:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Go to Sales
  4. Select Late Fees.
  5. Check the box to turn on late fees.

Are there some update instructions?

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Hello there, @ashahrest.

As of now, the Automatic Late Fee feature is still under Beta Testing. While the full implementation of this feature to all customers isn’t currently in our development road-map. We are working on big improvements that will be helpful for most of our customers, and you’ll see those rolling out soon.

In the meantime, you can create a service item for the Late Fee and manually add it to the Invoice or Sales Receipt.

To create a service item, here's how:

  1. Co to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Product and Services.
  3. Click New.
  4. Select Service.
  5. Enter the service item detail.
  6. Click Save and Close.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

First, thank you for finally implementing this feature.  I remember when I worked for QBO at the launch of the Harmony design language that it was one of the most requested features.  You rock!

Question though, it's been a year since the support article released discussing how to use it.  If it's not on the roadmap for release and is still in beta, wouldn't it be prudent to mark that article accordingly?  If it said Beta somewhere on it customers would feel less excluded than the current "some people have it, you don't" that is currently there.  I know it doesn't say that verbatim, but it feels that way when reading it.

Again, thank you for the feature work.  I'm thrilled to see it coming at all!

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Hello there, @theKVD.

Allow me to step in and share some additional information about the Automatic Late Fee feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I'm glad that you already have the option to turn on the Automatic Late Fee feature in your QuickBooks account, which will help apply late fees conveniently.

When the automatic late fee feature implemented, our engineers created the article for additional reference to those customers, like yourself, who have this feature. Though, I appreciate your feedback to include the Beta information in the article. It will surely help our Development Team decide on how best to improve QuickBooks articles.

Please know that you're always welcome to post again if you have any other questions about the automatic late fee feature or any QuickBooks related. The Community will always here to help you out.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

So it has been almost a year now.  Any idea on how much longer until this feature is released?  According to support there is no available time table.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Hello there, IH2O.

Yes, we don't have a specific time-frame yet as to when it'll be fully implemented. Meantime, you can add Late fees as a non-inventory or service item.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Products and Services
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Select either Non-inventory or Service as the item type.
  4. Fill out the information and the income account.
  5. Hit Save and close

You can pull up the Product/Service QuickReport to see all the transactions associated to these items.

Thanks for your patience while we're working on with the implementation. You can always drop by here if you need anything else.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

@Catherine_B Please stop suggesting manually doing it as an option. That is not an option.

Exactly.

I need this to work.  What other accounting software has it?

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Hello there, @coastaltt.

I can see the importance of being able to have a late fee option for your business. However, our developers are still rolling out this functionality by batch.

This opportunity has been assessed and taken care of. To stay current with our latest news, updates, and releases, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Online Blog

Your patience while this has continuously processed is much appreciated.

You got me here if you have any other concerns. I'm always ready to lend a hand.

Re: Automatic Late Fees

Thank you for the update and we appreciate that this is moving along quickly since it reflects very poorly on us and much more poorly so on your software when we have to scribble in a line item that says late fee after payment due date then try to keep it up to date when sending out reminder invoices.
