Chart of Account: I entered a tenant under subaccount Rental and the program places it under a different catagory, how do I correct that, or is my QB program corrupt?

Hello, @ctalavera.

 

If you're referring to account under the Chart of Accounts that's linked to a different category or type, you have to edit the account itself and link it to the correct category. Here's how:

 

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
  2. Click on the Lists menu.
  3. Select Chart of Accounts.
  4. Look for the rental account, right-click on the account's name, then select EditAccount.
  5. Make the necessary changes or edit the account type beside the Account Type section.
  6. Click Save and close.

On the other hand, if you're referring to the account type linked to the item when creating transactions to your tenant, you can change it by going to the Item List.

 

  1. Click on the Lists menu.
  2. Select Item List.
  3. Look for the item.
  4. Right-click on the item name and select Edit Item.
  5. Modify the account from there.
