Custom report that can filter transactions by type?

Hi, I have several chapters that transfer a percentage of their fees and membership dues to our national account through a bank transfer. We'd like to review it from time to time to compare chapters. Chapters are coded by the classes feature.

I know I can do an advance search for transfers but I find it too tedious to do this for each of our 15 chapters.

I also know that I can pull a general ledger report and filter it so only the transactions of the 15 chapters show up. However, all of the other non-transfer transactions show up too.

Is there a way to get a complete report of just transfer transactions for all 15 chapters (classes) through one report?

Hello there, @bri2k.

Let's try running a Purchases by Class Detail Report in QuickBooks Online with a little Customization to fit your needs. No worries, I'm here to guide you along the way. Let's begin:

  1. Go to the Reports tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. In the Find report by name, type in Purchases by Class Detail.
  3. Open the report. At the top-right of the page, click on the Customize button.
  4. In the Customize report window, select the Report period and makes some edits in the Filter section.
  5. Hit Run report.

This will bring up the transfer transactions for all fifteen classes in one report.

Let me know if you need further assistance. I'm always here. Have a nice day!

This isn't working for me. Purchases by class detail doesn't come up when I type it in the "find report by name" window.

Your confusion ends here, @twilsonasl.

Purchases reports are only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus or Advanced version. Thus, the current version of QuickBooks you're having is the possible reason why you can't pull up the Purchases by Class Detail report in your QBO.

You'll want to check this article to learn which reports are available for your QBO version: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Just in case you want to upgrade your QuickBooks subscription to track purchases, feel free to check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.
