Export to Excel Failure

Hello,

This has nothing to do with getting payroll updates.

A screenshot of my error is attached.  This is when I go to reports, employees & payroll, Summarize payroll data in excel to run our quarterly ohio unemployment report.

Thanks,
Tina

Hello @tinahr,

Thanks for providing a screenshot.

Currently, we have an on-going investigation when exporting which report to Excel. Our engineers are working on why you're getting the error when pulling out reports in Payroll.

While we are working to fix the issue, we have a workaround that you can perform to ensure you're still be able to pull up a data. To run the report from the previous quarters and when asked to update, select YES and it'll able to pull up the data. If this won't persist, another suggestion would be clean install QuickBooks and Excel.

I've added a helpful article on clean install QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

I'd still recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support team to add your account to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive an email once updates are available.

Here's how to reach them:

1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.

2. Choose Help tab at the top menu bar (you can still do this without opening a company file).

3. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help or press the F1 key.

4. Select Contact us.

Stay tuned for updates and if there's anything I can help you with, please let me know. I'd be happy to help.

I was reserving judgement, but followed these instructions to a "t" and guess what? My gut instinct was right. This is not a fix whatsoever.

I get the same error as shown in the screenshot supplied by @tinahr . Which is the same error I've received when running quarterly payroll reports for the last three quarters. Sadly, this was a waste of time, @ShallyMarR .

I'm presuming that this is still an unresolved issue - correct?

Recently upgrade server to Server 2019, running a terminal server and Office 365.  Getting the same export error.

Hey there, BPorter808.

I've got you covered in exporting your report into Excel via QuickBooks Desktop.

To better isolate this issue, as an initial step, you may want to open a sample company file. This is to check whether this has something to do with your company file or QuickBooks Program.

If you're able to export and email the report in Excel format, we can verify and rebuild your data. The data verification process in QuickBooks is a tool that examines the health of your QuickBooks company data file.

To Verify Data:

  1. Choose Window at the top, then Close All.
  2. Choose File.
  3. Click on Utilities.
  4. Verify Data.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Choose
  2. Click on Utilities.
  3. Rebuild Data.
  4. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  5. Click OKwhen you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

If you're still getting the same result, I'd suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Support to this re-investigated.

  1. Within your QuickBooks Desktop, click Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Click Contact us.
  3. In order to route you to the correct support expert, we need to know what type of question you have. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few options. You choose which one is best for you

I'll leave you with some helpful articles:

Please get back to me if you continue to get the same results so I can look further into this. Have a good one.

Export to Excel Failure

RoseMarjorieA,

This issue persists even when using a sample file.

Downgrading Office 365, nor using a previous version of Excel, is a work-around that can be done in my environment.

QuickBooks explicitly lists Office 365 as a compatible product for running Excel reports, so I suggest the engineers look closely at the affected .xlt file and upgrade/rewrite it to ensure compatibility with the current O365 version.

RoseMarjoireA,

The problem persists even from the sample file.

Downgrading Office 365, nor using an older version of Excel, is possible in my environment at this time.  Is there another solution?

Do we have a fix yet?  It's been almost a year.  I don't know what 'roll back previous quarters' means so I can't diagnose this.  I really hope someone comes on here and says that they're working on a fix as they did 11 months ago because then maybe we can start using this paid product in late 2020.

Trying to export a report to an existing Excel sheet so that I can create a usable report since QB's reporting is so vastly under powered (unless you abandon the product you already pay for and pay more for this more shiny product that we really really promise works but is hidden behind a paywall since the Premier reporting allows you to do almost half of what you need to do!)  Every time, I get the error message "We're sorry, but QuickBooks doesn't support updates for this type of report.  Please export the report from QuickBooks again."  Um, I'm not trying to update a report and exporting again doesn't work any better than the dozen times I just tried it.

I tried QB support.  Provided my license number and of course they said they couldn't really help because I'm not an admin person even though I am (how the heck would I know my license number??)  Brick walled me.  But the good news is that our payments to QB still go through.  Phew.

Pardon the sarcasm.  It is just VERY frustrating when a PAID program does not work and the people who built it don't have any freakin idea of how to fix their program.

I have another workaround for you, GalinMcMahon.

We can export your reports and use the Create New Worksheet report instead of updating an existing one.

I also suggest reaching out to the primary contact of your company file so they can add you as one of the contact person. This way, our Phone Support Agents can assist you. You can press (F2) in QuickBooks to get your License number.

Here's how to contact us:

  1. Go to the Help menu and click QuickBooks Desktop Help (F1).
  2. Select Contact us
  3. Enter your concern that you're having an error when exporting to Excel.
  4. Click Continue
  5. Choose a way on how to contact us.

Keep me posted on how this works. Thanks in advance!

My firm is having these same issues with QB_Payroll_link.xlt - when will Intuit finally provide a fix that works with all versions of Excel?  (Right now we know that it works in v1808 but not in 1901 or 1902)

We don't need tips.  We don't need customer service meddling in our files.  We NEED it FIXED.  Sorry to be rude but geeze, it's been long enough and then some!!!  What else can we expect to suddenly break with no hope of being fixed on this program?  It is a source we depend on for extremely important, detailed and ACCURATE accounting.  This is just not acceptable.

Export to Excel Failure

We have an ongoing investigation about exporting payroll data to Excel, gg62.

As a workaround, open the report from the previous quarter and select Yes if you're prompted to update the information. Otherwise, completely uninstall or clean install QuickBooks Desktop to replace the system files on your computer, so as with your Excel application.

You can follow the detailed steps in sequence to do a clean install through this link: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

If the error persists, I recommend working with our QuickBooks Technical Support Team, so they can add you to the open investigation. Please refer to the steps above to contact our support.

Any updates on this issue will be communicated via email, gg62. Thanks for your patience while we work on this with the utmost urgency.

  1. Open your QuickBooks company.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.

Well... it's now been a year and still not fixed. Really, really sad. I am lucky that I have few employees so I can use the "Reports" instead of the Summary form the Employee Center, which still gives the Pivot Table Error. A few of the tabs in the resulting export are correct, but some important ones contain "sample data".

I think that support is not being truthful when they say it's being worked on as it can't possibly take a full year to fix.

I'm having the same issue.  I've actually got a blank Excel sheet open in QuickBooks that locks me from doing anything.  I can't get the sheet to close so that I can move on.  Any suggestions of how to close the Excel sheet?

Thanks

You can't even "x" out... WOW. Congrats, Intuit, you have us paying for the privilege to have our work come to a standstill! As more posts are added to this thread, I prepare for an internal scoff at the sheer ridiculousness of it all.

The Intuit employees posting "fixes" for these problems are not at all providing any fix at all, though I'm sure they're doing their best to abide by orders from above. Where is the sense of urgency, Intuit?? We are more than a year into this now!

Just coming back to this thread to say I got this issue fixed. My client was licensed incorrectly (missing an add-in license necessary to process payments). Renewing the license corrected the Excel issue. Hope this helps someone out there!

Welcome to the Community.

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I understand how useful it is to your business and others. Rest assured, our engineers are working hard to fix this issue.

I'm backing up my colleague's suggestion to get in touch with our Payroll Support Team. With this, they can further investigate the issue and you'll be receiving notification once they have an update.

Please follow my peer @katherinejoyceO outlined steps on how to contact our phone support.

Also, there is another way to close the Excel sheet aside from clicking the X button on your screen. You can click the Close button on the left side of your screen.

I've attached a screenshot for visual reference.
