How do i change the default date?

By default QB Mac uses your system date. Any changes to the date format would be done in your Mac system preferences.

How do i change the default date?

For example, I am two weeks into January and I get my bank statement from December. Quickbooks won't let me put the end of December date into the journal line, it will force me to use today's date unless I "trick" it by changing the date in my computers settings and then inputting my transaction and then going back into my settings and change the date again. Design flaw by Quickbooks, that must be changed.

What date format are you using in your system date settings?  For instance MM/DD/YY or something else?

Both formats are exactly the same. My operating system does not allow for changes. YY/MM/DD

How do i change the default date?

Ok, the format is likely the issue.  I am unaware of a version of Mac OS X that does not allow changing the format to something other than YY/MM/DD.  But our recent date work should handle YY/MM/DD (we can't handle four digit years or textual dates like "saturday").

What OS version are you using?  Is it localized for a non-US market?  What version of QuickBooks Mac are you using?

10-11-6 El Capitan, just updated. Quickbooks for Mac desktop 2016. QB allows you to delete the date, and use dropdown calendar but once you select a different date, it quickly fills in todays date. I have tried everything...(I think)

Can you update to Yosemite? I know there have been fixes in the 2016 version that runs there for some date issues with less common formats.

How do i change the default date?

Nope, tried and found out my computer "does not qualify". Unless your computer is less than 4 years old and has a specific size drive it won't download. On my third version of QB over the past 10 yrs and this is by far the most frustrating "bug" QB has decided to put in their programming.

We added support for formats besides MM/DD/YY at one point. But its been difficult. I'll ask that the bug fixes in the Yosemite version get pushed back to the El Cap version (which in itself is a difficult story).

Is there an update for the Sierra version? My deposit dates default to the current date and won't let me change it to the actual deposit date.

How do i change the default date?

Usually this is an issue with the localized system date. Try changing everything to US date format and region and see if that fixes it.  The 2016 version has been updated many times - you can run QuickBooks->Check for Updates to get the latest one.

How do i change the default date?

hi dragonflygarden,

Sorry to hear you are encountering problems with date entry.   The forum posts here mention bill dates and journal entries, but we cannot reproduce any date entry problems in either of those windows.  Can you describe for us what date field in a particular QBMac window where the date field clears out on you?  If you could provide specific steps for what window you go into, do you tab into the date field, type the date or use the date picker, tab out of the field, return, or click somewhere else in the window to get out of the date field.  Steps like that.

Also, in your Mac's System Preferences > Language & Region preferences panel, what is the 'Region' selected?  For example, does it say, "United States" or does it say, "United States (Custom)".  If the word custom is on the selected region, select the 'Advanced' button and select the 'Dates' tab panel ... what format is show for your 'Short' date format?  Specifically, what does the format look like?  Is it something like "01 / 05 / 17", or is it "17 / 01 / 05", or "17 / 05 / 01" ?

How do i change the default date?

When in QB, I just want the ability to change the date to something other than the current date. Does not matter what I do in QB, once I change the date to the one I want, it switches my choice back to "today's date". I am not sure what that has to do with my OS, however both formats match each other

How do i change the default date?

I think the problem is we are wanting any new invoices or payments made to get today's date populated. We are seeing the date of the last saved transaction and it's very annoying to find out 4 invoices later that the date is wrong just because I made an invoice with a different date catching up on work.

Thanks for joining the thread, CastroComp.

I'm here with some insight to provide regarding this matter.

After some research and testing, I found out that there's currently no option to change the date when you create invoices. It'll automatically default to the date of the last transaction that you entered. For more information about this, you can check out our guide: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac User’s Guide

I can see how having this option would make it easier for you, and others, to record the invoices. Rest assured, I'm going to submit a feature request from my side, which is sent to the Product Development Team. They're constantly looking for great ideas from users, like yourself, when deciding how to enhance QuickBooks.

Please let me know if there's anything else you need, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Thanks again for reaching out, wishing you and your business the best.

How do i change the default date?

Hi,

I am having the same issue, not being able to change the default date.  I am adding in some bills from last month and payments i did.  It won't allow me to change any dates. Just resets to today's date.  There seems to be a Bug in the date field.

How do i change the default date?

Hello there, @Wally1.

Thank you for joining the Community. Allow me to help share some insights about editing the date when adding in some bills and payments made last month.

As mentioned by my colleague, AldrinS, the option to change the default date is currently unavailable. What you can do for now is to import transactions in Excel.

Let me show you how:

  1. Create a spreadsheet with the information you want to bring in.
  2. Import the table.
  3. Clean up any missed transactions.

The following article contains more information about entering your historical data in QuickBooks Mac: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 User’s Guide.

  • Entering historical transactions Pages 11-16
  • Importing transactions in batches Page 212

That should get you back on track. I'm happy to help some more if you have other questions with QuickBooks Mac. Have a good one!

How do i change the default date?

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to enter bills from last year and it won't accept the bill date. When I enter it, either with the calendar or by typing, QB automatically changes it to today's date. Help!

How do i change the default date?

Thanks for joining this conversation, @Fern. I understand the need to enter the date from last year's bill. As mentioned by my colleague above MaryGraceS, it's unavailable in QuickBooks for Mac.

You can follow the steps she provided above to import transactions in Excel as a workaround. What I can do is share your ideas with our engineers to let them know what works best for you. This will show our developers what they need to consider in future product updates.

Please know I'm always available here to lend a helping hand. Stay safe.
