The pay date should be in August, Rcdmail.
This will help you show the payroll in the August Income statement. I'll show you how:
This is how it'll look like:

The problem is that when I do an end of month payroll, I do not do it in that month (example: 8/31), I do it a few days after the last day of the month. Though payroll is for the pay period of 8/16-31, QBO will not allow you to change the date. So if I do it September 3rd for August 16-31, it will go into the September P&L, not August. When we were on Desktop QB, they would allow you to change the date, QBO does not.
I guess I wasn't clear, sorry.
The question is how can I get my end of the month payroll to show up in my income statement when I cannot process payroll until a few days into the following month?
If I do my 8/`16-31 payroll on September 3rd, it will go into the September P&L. QBO will not allow you to back date a payroll. I am unable, ever, to do payroll on the actual last day of the month. I cannot possibly be the only person using QBO with this problem
Thank you for sharing additional insights, @rcdmail!
You have the option to select 2 days after the Pay Period as the Pay Date of your payroll before processing it. I'm here to share a few insights and help you from there.
First off, QuickBooks Online Payroll calculates your taxes and its reporting depending on your payroll's pay date. You can learn more about this through this link: QuickBooks Payroll 101.
In addition, QuickBooks always process your payroll within 2 days after the last day of your payroll's pay period. This is the reason why you're unable to run your payroll on the last day of your pay period.
Thus said, you'll need to run your end of the month payroll with a pay period of 08/16-08/31 and the pay date of 09/03. But it'll be posted on your September's Income Statement not on August. report.
To add, you can also read this article to learn more about how you can run a payroll: Create Paychecks in Online Payroll.

Since our employees are all commission based and paid for jobs through the last day of the month, I cannot process payroll before then because it won't include all of their commission. And, I don't know what that is until the end of the last day.
So it sounds like I am unable to get around this dilemma.
We didn't have this problem with QuickBooks desk top because it would allow us to change the payroll date to the last day of the month despite doing it several days into the following month.
Thanks for getting back to us. I understand how you wanted to get the income statement showing your end of the month payroll.
You can only edit an unapproved manual or direct deposit paycheck so it will be included in the report. Though I know that processing payroll on the actual last day of the month is not the option you'd like to do, but this is the only way to make it happen.
I'm sharing you one of our help article that you can read through. Check out this link: Change an employee paycheck. It gives you an idea on what can and can't be edited and how to edit paychecks in QB Online.
