Here in QuickBooks, you can set up your inventory items in just a few steps. To begin, you'll have to turn your inventory tracking on. These are the steps:
- Go to the Gear icon and then select Account and settings.
- Select the Sales tab.
- Select Edit (pencil icon) in the Product and services section.
- Turn on Show Product/Service column on sales forms. You can also turn on Price rules if you want to set up flexible pricing for the things you sell.
- Turn on both Track quantity and price/rate and Track inventory quantity on hand.
- Select Save and then Done.

Once you're done, you can then proceed to add your inventory products. Here's how:
- Go to Sales and then Product and services.
- Select New or Add a product or service. Then select Inventory.
- Add a Name, SKU, or Category for what you're tracking. Please note that categories lets you group your products and services together to make them easier to find.
- Select the unit from the Unit arrow dropdown.
- Select the category from the Category arrow dropdown.
