To delete the customer, you'll have to make the customer inactive in the Customer Information page.
The customer's information will not be deleted totally in QuickBooks. You can still see it in the Customer Center when you click the Include Inactive box.

For now, we're not able to completely delete customers in QuickBooks Online. Once made inactive, the customer will no longer show up in your list of customers.
I will also send your feedback about being able to completely delete customer profiles. All submitted feedback will be reviewed and taken into consideration for future updates.

I've taken over QBO from a previous bookkeeper and that person inappropriately categorized several Vendors as Customers so the information is totally wrong for these few 'Customers' and instead of making them inactive because they're actually vendors, I'm guessing I'd have to re-establish them as vendors unless there's a way to re-categorize them as Vendors and take them away from being Customers.

Currently, the ability to convert to a vendor into a customer and vice versa is not available. You need not to worry, I can guide you on how to inactivate your vendors and then set up a new customer.

Merging is the only way, but it's a bit scary, merging a client entered by mistake with a client I've already has time entries, has been billed and has an outstanding balance. There's no reason to NOT have a delete function, as long as it will not allow deleting any account, client or vendor with a history. In fact, allowing two of anything, each with separate histories is a bigger mistake than deleting anything without a history!

We value customer ideas here in the Community. In QBO, there isn't an option to completely remove the customer's information. You're right that we can only make them inactive. This lets you keep track of the deleted clients by restoring them anytime.
