Hungarian companies are required to use a NAV-compliant invoicing software. By law, it must integrate to tax offices (e.g. Billingo, Szamlazz). Is QBO capable of this?

QuickBooks is certainly my preference, but staying complaint to Hungarian law is priority. Therefore it is very important that the software is able to integrate with NAV (the Hungarian tax office). Other issues start coming in to play with QB unable to automatically sync to any Hungarian-based banks (e.g. OTP, K&H, UniCredit, Raiffeisen) . Have other Hungarian users had experience with QBO? How have you navigated NAV requirements and bank account sync? Thanks a lot!

Hi there, matthew19.

For now, we're unable to directly connect QBO with NAV. Although, you can track your sales taxes in the program, paying and filing them will be done manually or directly through the tax agency.

Also, not all banks are currently supported in QBO. You can enter a request to have your bank added as one of the participating financial institution. Just click the Request support for your bank button in the Banking page and enter the bank's name and web address.

Additional details and options are discussed here: Find your bank account when you connect to online banking

In the meantime, you can import a csv file of your banking transactions into your account. You can use this article as a guide so you can start importing your data: Import bank transactions using Excel CSV files.

Once imported, follow the steps in this article on how to categorize and manage your banking transactions: Assign, categorise, edit, and add your downloaded banking transactions.

I'll be around the corner if you need additional assistance with your sales taxes and banking transactions. Other members of the forum can also jump in and offer their help.

If you are using Billingo, you can export the data out to XLS and import them into QBO

If you don't mind to import them manually, then you may consider using QBO EU version for Hungary.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, Fiat.

I've actually just signed up for Billingo.  My Hungarian knowledge is limited, so the interface is a bit tricky to navigate.  That said, I haven't seen any NAV-compliant Hungarian invoicing systems with an English interface option (as of 2019, Szamlazz did not have one).  An English interface was one of the attractions of QBO.

I certainly appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks a lot, JenoP!  This was a very informative response.

It looks like no banks in Hungary (e.g. OTP, Raiffeisen, K&H, Budapest, KDB, UniCredit, CIB) are available on QBO.  I've submitted requests (for OTP, at least) several times over the past year.

I very much enjoy QB smooth interface and support structure.  Unfortunately, without NAV integration or bank synchronization for Hungarian businesses (we're, by law, required to use Hungarian banks) it becomes a very difficult system to justify.

All things being equal I'd gladly choose QBO over any NAV-compliant Hungarian option.  In fact, I have yet to find a Hungarian invoicing software that even has an English interface option.  There is certainly a significant opportunity to meet a large and under-served base of businesses here.

Do we know whether this is something QB is working toward?  I wouldn't want to hold my breath for a solution that may still be a few years away but it would be interesting if this is a early-2020 roll out.

Thanks again for the insights!

Hello! I would like to ask if the connectivity to NAV (the hungarian tax office) is still not possible? Is there any developments towards this, so we can use quickbooks in hungary?

I'm glad to see you here, @Josi25.

Let me share updates about the NAV and QuickBooks Online (QBO) integration.

At the moment, QBO and NAV aren't possible. Hence, you can request to have your bank added to its partner by clicking the Request support for your bank tab in the Banking section. Then, type in your bank's name and web address.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. Select Connect account.
  3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks cannot find your bank, select 'Still can’t find your bank?'. You may need to scroll down the page to find this.
  4. Enter your Bank name and web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

Feel free to visit this article for more info: Find your bank or credit card account when you connect to online banking.

You might want to easily download transaction info from your bank to QBO. Check out this article: How to use automatic and manual online banking updates.

If you have additional questions about managing your integrations, don't hesitate to come back. I'll be willing to lend a hand. Have a good one.
