Hello, plymouthnatick!

It's good to see you here in Community!

You can customize the Transactions Detail by Account report to include the journal entries. Here's how to do it:

  1. On the left panel, click Reports.
  2. Type Transaction Detail by Account in the search box.
  3. Change the Report period, and click the Customize button.
  4. Click Filter to expand, click the Transaction Type box and choose Journal Entry from the drop down list.
  5. Select All from the Account drop down menu.
  6. Click Run Report.

I hope this answers your concern. Let me know if you need anything else.

I have the same problem.  Is anyone at quickbooks working on this?  I run the report by filtering by location.  I have journal entry chosen in the transaction type filter as well.  I made sure the location was entered on the journal entry (both the credit and debit) and it still does not show up.

The journal entry itself has multiple line items in it. those individual line items, however, do not show on reports, such as the report of which expenses were paid to each vendor. only the individual entries on the *transaction log* (register report) show up in these reports, not the line items in the JE(s)--as they should. this is a bug

Hi everyone.

Allow me to take over and help get this resolved quickly. Let's get your journal entries to show up on your Transaction Detail by Account Report.

You should be able to customize the report to show the journal entries. As an initial troubleshooting step, let's start by opening a private browser to determine if the error is caused by the cache or not.

Here's how to open a private window in different browsers:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N.

If this works fine using your private browser, let's go back to your regular browser and clear its cache.

For additional assistance, feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Team. Agents have the necessary tools, like screen-sharing to get your report accurate.

Keep me posted if there's anything else you need. You have a wonderful day!

I've been trying to do this from QuickBooks Online and it's frustrating how the functions on QBO do NOT do what they are supposed to do.

If going to the chart of accounts doesn't give you a transactions report, try going to the balance sheet and clicking the balance amount to generate one.

Thanks for joining this thread, anneaccountant.

Allow me to jump in and help ensure you're able to generate a report in the Chart of Accounts.

I've replicated this on my QuickBooks Online sample file, and it seems like it works fine since I was able to check all the transactions from Chart of Accounts when generating the report. In this case, you may follow the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague RoseMarjorieA this will help determine if this is caused by a browser.

If the issue persist, I recommend calling our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They have the tools to do a remote session and investigate this further.

Here's how you can contact our phone support:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help at the top right.
  3. Click Contact Us to connect with a live agent.

Please let me know how it goes. I'm just a post away if you have any other questions. Have a good one.

Re: I am running a "Transaction Detail by Account" report and Journal Entries do not show up.

I'm having the same issue as other's here: JE's not showing up. I've tried all the Accountant> Transaction by xxxx reports. I'm looking to report all RECONCILED transactions in the active bank accounts through the next 2 weeks to determine cash availability. Transaction by account; Filter > All bank accounts. Imagine my surprise when "deleted" accounts appeared??? also, too many transactions to process - huh - so much for historical comparison reports I guess. Set report period to 1/12019 through ; the deleted accounts disappeared. however, no JE's. set cleared status to Unreconciled, still no JE's

Hello there, @jbowman1611.

When running report/s in QuickBooks Online (QBO), journal entries will be included as long as it was covered on the date you've selected on the report. To resolve the issue, you can try following the troubleshooting steps provided above to run your report/s correctly.

If the same thing happens, you can create a dummy journal entry, then run a quick report on the account used on the entry created.

To run a quickreport:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Look for the account.
  4. Click on the drop-down arrow under Action.
  5. Click on Run report.

In this way, you'll be able to check all the entries created under that specific account. If everything is fine from there and the entry is still isn't showing up on the report, I recommend getting in touch with our Support Team to check and investigate this further securely. For the support's contact information, you can check it here: Contact the QuickBooks Online Customer Support team.

Re: I am running a "Transaction Detail by Account" report and Journal Entries do not show up.

Hopefully this got fixed by QB.  I suggest run a General Ledger detail report as that is a standard report in any accounting system that includes all transactions for the date range that you select.  This shows normal accounting transactions including all debits and credits by account number.
