Hi majesty92,

We value your business and we want to help you minimize your expenses while also ensuring you'll get the best of QuickBooks Online out from what you're paying for.

Just to verify, are you using the Simple Start or Essentials version of QuickBooks Online? If so, please know that the Budgeting function is available only in the Plus version. You'll need to upgrade your account so you can activate and use this function.

Rest assured that you'll be able to take advantage other handy features aside from Budgeting. You can check this page to compare the different features across all versions: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/online-compare.

After an upgrade, you'll get an access to the Budgeting function through the Gear icon.

In addition, I have here an article about the Budgeting function that you might want to read on: How to Create, Edit, and Manage Budgets?

Don't hesitate to leave comment below if you have any other concerns.

I do NOT want to keep upgrading my Desktop Pro Plus every year.  How do I cancel and just upgrade every 2-3 years?

Hi there, cwel226787.

Let me help you cancel your Plus subscription.

To cancel your Plus subscription, you can log in to your Intuit account through this this link: https://camps.intuit.com/. Then, select the QuickBooks Pro Plus product which you are subscribed to. You can also read the article about cancelling QuickBooks subscription first. Then, expand the QuickBooks Pro Plus subscription section to know the services you'll lose under it.

After cancelling, QuickBooks will become a standalone program which will be good for 3 years. So, if you're currently having QuickBooks Pro 2019, it will be good until 2022.

Please go back to this thread if you have additional questions.

@JessT, "After cancelling, QuickBooks will become a standalone program which will be good for 3 years. So, if you're currently having QuickBooks Pro 2019, it will be good until 2022."

Are you saying they will not be able to use Pro 2019 after 2022, or just that the online functions like payroll will no longer be available to them (they can continue to use the program itself for as long as it meets their needs), as in the Discontinuation Policy:

"Your access to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll ServicesLive SupportOnline BackupOnline Banking, and other services through QuickBooks Desktop 2016 softwarewill be discontinued after May 31, 2019. This also means you'll no longer receive critical security updates starting June 1, 2019. If you receive any security updates before this date, you should install them."
