I have no vehicle but it won't let me export until I enter vehicle information. I changed all travel expenses to other business expenses and it still won't let me transfer. I deleted the business related trip.

Hello there, danielle-von.

Currently, you're unable to bypass in setting up the vehicle information in QuickBooks Self Employed. Let me provide you a few information about this.

QuickBooks Self Employed (QBSE) is designed to use a vehicle as part of business purposes. I suggest reaching out to your accountant if you don't want to claim your vehicle expenses for your business.

Here's an article for more information about vehicle deductions: About Auto, Car, or Vehicle Deductions.

For future reference, we use the standard mileage method of deducting vehicle expenses. Please check this article: Schedule C Car And Truck.

Wow, this is a terrible user experience! And it's been this way for years. I have no interest in getting a car, and this product feature I pay for is unusable because of that. Is this on the product roadmap to be addressed?

Please know that you'll be prompt to enter vehicle information when you've categorized transactions under Car and truck.

You can run Business and personal expenses report to check for all the transactions that you’ve categorized under this category. Once done, you can go ahead and recategorize those transactions. You can consult an accountant to get advised what account to use when recategorizing these transactions.

Then, when exporting your data to TurboTax you’ll no longer prompt to enter vehicle information since you no longer have any transactions under that category.

Here’s how to run the Business and personal expenses report:

  1. Go to your Reports tab and look for Business and personal expenses.
  2. Set the date and click on the View link beside it.
  3. Look for Car and truck below Business expenses on the report and click on the amount beside it.
  4. From here, you can expand the transaction and edit the category.
  5. Click on the Save button once you are done.
