Good afternoon, @treasurer26.
I'm here to provide some clarification on your question regarding the labels of your reports, accounts, and other entities in QuickBooks Online. As previously mentioned, the names of these items and sections are determined by the Industry Type you have selected in your Account Settings. For a Non-Profit account, there are several changes made. Just to name a few:
These changes are made based on requirements from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to avoid confusion with regular, For-Profit business entities and reports. You've mentioned that these items didn't used to be named this way, is it possible your tax form/industry type was only recently changed to Non-Profit? Once the tax form is changed in Account and Settings, the entity and report labels are updated in 2-3 business days.
I can assure you there isn't a physical location setting, nor would your IP address be tracked based on any traveling you've done. If you initially created your QBO account as the US version, it will remain that way for its entire lifetime.
For more information on this, please check out our detailed guide on configuring your account for a non-profit organization or the IRS guidelines on charities/non-profits. Please keep in touch with me here should there be anything else you need, I want to ensure your success with QuickBooks. Thanks for reaching out, I look forward to hearing from you again.
Hello, treasurer26.
The Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks is based on the industry you selected when you set up your company file.
You can check if your company is set to non-profit.
Here's how:
Let me know if you have other concerns about this. I'll be glad to help. Thanks!
It is set for non-profit but it is still giving me all British terms. I want it to say Balance Sheet like it did before my trip. Instead it says Statement of Financial Position. I want it to say Profit and Loss Statement. Instead it says Statement of Activity. I want it to say Expense. Instead it says Expenditure. It also says Pledge. Not sure what that was before my trip.

I don't see how QBO knows you went on a trip and even if it did, it would not change the terminology, which is based on the region you subscribed to, not where you are physically located
It detected my IP as being in New Zealand and it hasn't changed back to US Terminology.
Hello there, @treasurer26.
Let me help ensure you're able to successfully login to your QuickBooks Online US version account.
One possible reason the terminologies of your QuickBooks Online account has change because you've use an incorrect login URL upon accessing it.
Just a heads-up though, QuickBooks Online has a New Zealand version. Regardless of where you are as long as you select the correct country when accessing your account, you'll be able to login the correct account.
To make sure you're accessing QuickBooks Online US version, here's how:

That explains it. It just happened to implement the day I got to New Zealand. Complete coincidence. Thanks.
