I want to add a new sub account to my chart of accounts. In other words I want a new category in my chart of accounts

There are just a few steps to add a new sub-account to your Chart of Accounts. Here's how:

1. Click Accounting from the left navigation menu.

2. Make sure Chart of Accounts is selected at the top of the page.

3. Select the green New button in the top right corner.

4. Enter all necessary information, and then check the box labeled "Is sub-account" and choose the parent account.

5. Click Save and Close.

For now, we can check your current view if it's set up as Accountant View, so you can follow the steps shared by MorganB above. The Business view is meant to help newcomers in QuickBooks Online to get started on the key workflows that matter most to small businesses. While Accountant view uses standard accounting language and you have accounting experience or want complete control over features.

To switch views, follow the steps below:

1. Click the Gear icon⚙.
2. Select Switch to Business view or Switch to Accountant view.

You can also update it through the Accounts and Settings:

1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Accounts and Settings.
2. Tap on Advanced at the left pane, then go to the User View section.
3. Toggle the option from Business View to Accountant View and vice versa.

 Also, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, thus causing some unusual responses.

Let's log in to your account using a private browser. This mode will not save any history, making it a great place to identify browser issues.

You may use these shortcut keys that I've listed below:

• Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N  
• Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
• Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works successfully, you'd want to clear your regular browser's cache to prevent any unexpected behavior. Also, you can use other compatible browsers in QBO.
