I was trying to solve the issue of keeping customers updated by importing and accidentally created a new customer type that I would like to delete. Is that possible?

Yes indeed, @waringrj!

You can delete any of your customer types from your lists. I'd be glad to help you accomplish this.

  1. Go to Sales.
  2. Select Customers.
  3. Click Customer Types.
  4. Find the customer type you want to delete.
  5. Under ACTION, select the Edit drop-down menu.
  6. Click Make Inactive.

To add, you can take a look at the screenshots below for your visual reference.

Thanks for quick response.

I thought I replied to this but do not see it.

The solution you propose does not delete the customer type, it marks it inactive and it still shows in the list of customer types when adding a new customer and selecting customer type.  If there were a lot of these it would be very cluttered, this leaves no way to modify how you want to categorize should your ogranization require a change.

No way to actually delete this?

Hello there, @waringrj.

You can delete the customer type in QuickBooks. I'll show you how to do it.

Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, click Sales.
  2. Select Customers.
  3. Click the customer's name.
  4. At the top right, click Edit.
  5. Select the Additional Info.
  6. Clear the Customer Type.
  7. Click Save, once done.

You can take a look at the screenshots below.

The last response clears the customer type from an individual customer, it does not delete the customer type from the list of possible types, and the "inactive" customer type still shows in the list when assigning the type to a customer.

Is there no way to actually delete it?

Hello waringrj,

The earlier responses only show how to remove Customer Type from the customer profile and make it inactive.

The option to hide inactive customer types or to delete it completely from the system is not yet available. I'll let our Product Development Team know about this. They'll evaluate and put it into consideration for product updates.

I appreciate you for letting us know about this. You can always post here if you need anything else.
