Is there a reason i get a "Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again" when I attempt to input invoices and expenses into a project?

Hi there, marcus5,

 

I've received a report that some customers are getting an unexpected error when creating invoices and expenses under projects.

 

However, our Engineering Team has found a fix for this issue. You need to edit the project so you can add a transaction to it.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to Projects from the left navigation bar.
  2. Select the project to open it.
  3. Click Edit, then add or change the name.
  4. Click Save.
  5. After that, click the Add to project ▼drop-down, then select the transaction you want to input.

I have the same issue when trying to add transactions to a job. Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again. I can find and edit the job number but I still get the same error.  Please advise.

There are no current cases about the error message you're getting when adding transactions into a job or project. To isolate the issue, you can follow the suggested steps provided by MaryLandT above to modify the project or job information.

 

If you're getting the same result, you can proceed with the browser troubleshooting steps. I'm here to guide you with the process.

 

First, open QuickBooks using a private window. In most cases, an unexpected error happens when a browser tends to hold information due to the stored cached. To save you time, you can use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P​​​​​​

 

 

If it works, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Moreover, you can use another supported and up-to-date browser to narrow down the result.

Hi - I'm getting this same error. I've tried

 

1. clearing my browser

2. using a private browser

3. editing the Project name/Notes

 

No luck so far. Still getting "Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again" and the Project Name does not show up if I try to add it via the "Customer" field in the Invoice. 

EDIT: I'm using the latest version of Chrome on Windows 10 Pro

 

Please help!

Hi - I am having the same issue. Cannot add an invoice to a project and new projects do not appear in the "Customer" field. I've tried all of the above suggestions, with no luck so far. 

 

I'm using Chrome on Windows 10. Both are fully up to date.

To further investigate the root cause of the issue, I recommend reaching out to our technical support team. You can request a screen-sharing session so they can check your setup and determine what causes the issue. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. From the Assistant tab, type your concern. Example: Getting error "Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again".
  3. Then, type Talk to a Human and click the Get help from a human option.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callbackqbohelp2.PNG

Also, in case you want to view all of your customer's invoices and payments, you can run the Invoices and Received Payments report. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. From the search field, type Invoices and Received Payments.
  3. Click the report to open. You can also modify the report details by selecting the Customize button.
