Made a journal entry to record a vehicle purchase & trade, now I need to match the Deposit and the check to the entry. How do I get entries to show up for the bank trans?

Basically I have a deposit for the total amount $10,000 and a check for the total amount.

The entry has the parts that add up to the $10,000, but journal entries are not showing up as possible matches for the deposit or the check.

You'll need to make sure that one of the affected account of the said Journal Entry is a bank account, accounting109. This should allow you to match it to a deposit or check depending on what is debited or credited.

  • If the journal entry debits the bank account, you can match it to a deposit in the Banking page.
  • If the journal entry credits the bank account, you can match it to a check.

Since the purpose of your journal entry is to record the purchased vehicle, you'll need to make sure the bank account is credited with the said amount.

  1. Open the journal entry and make sure the Journal date is correct.
  2. Credit the bank account with the amount of $10,000.
  3. Debit the affected expense accounts.
  4. Click Save and close.

After that, you can match the check to the journal entry in the Banking page.

Thank you, JamesDuanT. This helped. I was just trying to put too much info into one journal entry. Once you mentioned matching it to the account - I realized my mistake. Again Thank you so much!
