Need to know how many Items needed to build all assemblies on sales order

We use assemblies to sell fence in Quick books.

All the items to build the assemblies are loaded and assembled on jobsite. The assemblies in Quick books are not built till after invoiced.

I need to know quantity of each item needed to build all assemblies on the open sales orders.

Like to have a pick list generated from each individual sales order with all the items needed to build the assemblies on one sales order.

Need to know how many Items needed to build all assemblies on sales order

Hello there, B Reiff. Thanks for sharing your concern in the Community forum.

The number of items you set up and what item consists of that assembly depends on you. Also, QuickBooks Desktop has an option to automatically create sub-assemblies. If you consider using this feature, you can follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Inventory menu and select Build Assemblies.
2. Tick the Automatically build required subassemblies option.

For more tips and information, you can use this article as your guide:  Create, build, and work with inventory assembly items.

Comment below if you have other questions. Take care always and stay safe.

Need to know how many Items needed to build all assemblies on sales order

Hello there, @B Reiff.

You can run a report for the Pending Assemblies to know what are the inventory parts you need to prepare for each sales order. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Inventory.
  2. Choose Pending Builds.
  3. Click on each transaction to see the specific builds per assembly. This is how it looks like:

You can also run the Open Sales Orders by Item report. To know more how to track the items you build, check out this article: Track the products you manufacture.

I've added this reference page for your future tasks in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT):QBDT Self-Help Articles.

Please don't hesitate to tag my name in the comment section below if you have other questions. I'd be happy to help you. Take care.

Need to know how many Items needed to build all assemblies on sales order

Hello Rich

Did you ever got an answer about this? Clearly the 2 people for quikcbooks didnt understand what we need.

first I'm not sure setting up the Pending builds automatically is a good thing

second it would be great if the system can generate a pick list of report of all teh components needed to build that particular sales order.

That is not a helpful answer, since:

1) BUILD ASSEMBLY immediately processes all inventory transitions WITHOUT any option to generate a pick list, of create any kind of delay to run a report against as an OPEN build, so it won't help at all.

2) A PICK LIST is a pretty standard thing in manufacturing, just as Work Orders are, and yet neither is supported even in V22.

3) Please don't tell us to use Sales Orders to build sub-assemblies in house, that doesn't work either, as the end of that process is an invoice which goes to whom?

Need to know how many Items needed to build all assemblies on sales order

Hola - is there any actual answer to the question ?

Because as far as we can figure out, even with advanced inventory, the only way we can get a pick list is to create a sales order, which REALLY DOES NOT WORK for sub-assemblies, thank you not.

Without a work order function or process, this is pretty much worthless for running a company that makes things.

Meanwhile, the Build Assemblies function is fundamentally broken, as it **IMMEDIATELY** re-allocates all inventory into the sub-assembly or assembly as if winged angels waved wands in our factory so that instantly the raw materials in their many tonnes were converted into bulk blends without delay or friction or loss.

You are so right… it is far from being close to what I need. WE build boats and cannot get a list of the parts we need to show on the picking list… being a manufacturer and using this product has me rethinking the software. The build assemblies from the pending builds ARE non-posting so the list is there… just not where you need it! Let me know when y’all have the assemblies featured on the pick lists.

 Thanks,

lynn

lynn - have figured out a few things using groups and sales orders and pick lists and it is far to tedious to go into here. hit my email directly ([email address removed]) and i'll share what we have figured out. we have some hacks.

i dumped quickbooks for syspro at the last company i was running, i can't believe that ten years on the idiots at intuit still spend their time holding meetings instead of implementing needed functionality (work orders, stocking draws, WIP, etc etc etc)
