QB job/project reporting

I need job cost reports exported to a .csv format.  It has been requested by one of my clients to export a report to .csv so they can do a pivot table and some graphs with the data.  There are 40-50 active projects and quite a few accounts (from the chart of accounts) that need to be displayed.  Which report(s) would work best for this?  I am looking for both Desktop and QBO reports.

thanks in advance

Welcome to the Community, @57books.

I'm here to guide you on how to export Reports to Excel from both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

Let's begin with QuickBooks Desktop. I've provided the steps below on how to get the Report for your needs:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Jobs, Time, & Mileage.
  3. Choose any of the Reports on the list and click on the Report name.
  4. (Optional) You can press on the Customize Report button at the top-left of the Report to add any filters to the Report.
  5. Press on the Excel button at the top of the Report to export into a spreadsheet. Once it loads in Excel, then you can save it as a CSV file.

That's all there's to it! For additional information on Job Costs Reports in QuickBooks Desktop, click here.

Now we can move on to QuickBooks Online. Here's how you can run a Report to show the Project Costs:

  1. Go to the Projects tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click on the Project to view more details.
  3. Navigate to the Project Reports tab.
  4. Select View to open up the Report.
  5. (Optional) You can press on the Customize button on the top-right of the page to add any filters to the Report.
  6. Press on the Export icon to bring the data into Excel. Once it loads in Excel, then you can save it as a CSV file.

There you have it. Here's a Community Article that explains more about the Project Reports in QuickBooks Online.

thank you, that is great information.  Is there a particular report that works best for the type of data I will need in order to process a pivot table that contains all pertinent job information.

Hey there, @57books.

For now, those are the available reports you can pull up to view projects and jobs. You'll need to customize  these reports in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online to add or delete information.

I want to make sure that you'll be able to generate reports that you need. It would be great if you can provide what specific data you'll require to export. This way, I can check any other applicable reports for you.

I look forward to your reply. I'd be glad to help you some more. Have a wonderful day.

@57books

I would recommend QB Desktop for your case. Premier edition with a one time license is a good start. Then you may upgrade to Enterprise edition with the Advanced Reporting feature if your client is familiar with SQL.
