Reporting for budget vs actual by class with transaction detail on report

I am hoping someone can provide an answer for this. We use QuickBooks Premier 2019 Desktop.

We do budget by class. What management is asking for is the transaction detail for each GL account that has a budget amount. I cannot find a method to get both the actual and the budget onto one report in QuickBooks Premier Desktop.

I have attached a snip of the budget vs actual report we use, and a snip of the transaction details for the class that appears on the report.

Can this be done? We cannot use the job costing feature because of the versatile nature of our business.

Thanks

Pennee

Glad to have you back here in the Community, @pennees.

At this time, being able to have the transaction details for each GL account, that has a budget amount to show up on both the actual and the budget into one report isn't available.

The Budget and Actual report will only display the total amount of the transaction. To see its details, you'll need to manually click the budget amount.

However, you have the option to export the Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual report, and Transaction Detail By Account to Excel then customize it from there. This way, you'll be able to have your desired data to appear in one report.

To give you more details on how to do this, you may see this link: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

I like to let you know that our developers are always finding ways to make the product work the way your business needs. I'll do my part and personally submit this preference to them, so they can assess the suggestion and put it under consideration.

I'm also adding here some links that you can check out about the reports available in QBDT and on how to customize them:

You can always find me here if there's anything else you need. Have a great week ahead, Pennee.

Reporting for budget vs actual by class with transaction detail on report

I am trying to export the data to a spreadsheet. The first export of the report budget vs actual works fine. When I try to add (from QuickBooks using excel, update an existing worksheet, second tab) I get a message the excel does not permit exporting to a protected or shared worksheet or adding a sheet to a protected worksheet.

My excel spreadsheet is not protected or shared and is in Normal view

Thanks

Good morning, @pennees.

I recommend opening new spreadsheets for each Report, then combining them into a third worksheet. You can check out this Community Article that provides more details on how Excel Spreadsheets Work in QuickBooks Desktop.
