Sales Tax item

Hi,

I am in need of help! The people before me set up different states in which Sales tax was collocated. The Sale tax item have been made in active, but still show up on the Sales Tax Liability report. It looks like some to the sales tax may have been paid for the various states, but they still show up on the report. How do I remove them from the report? I did memorize a report, but I miss using the old what, by go to Venders - sales tax, then sales tax liability. I would like to be able to straighten out this report so it can be used without seeing the sales tax item that are inactive or done in the past (at least three years ago).
I am using QB Pro Plus 2017 (desk top)

Hi @HOw to clear a depost from serva,

Currently, we're unable to delete an inactive sales tax item. As long as there's no amount in the sales tax payable column, your report is good to go.

You might want to create a new memorize sales tax report so you can start with new data. Here's how:

  1. Vendors, then Sales Tax.
  2. Select Sales Tax Liability.
  3. Click the Memorize button at the top of the report.

Thank you, but as I said, I have already set up a memorized report. I like to keep the books as clean as I can and was looking to solve the problem of the out of state sales tax on the items list still showing up on the sales tax report done the normal way.
You cannot make the sale tax items on the items list go away, because they have been used. I was hoping for a way to delete them from the items list in hopes they would not show up on the report.

But, again, thank you for your response.

Hi there, @HOw to clear a depost from serva.

Thanks for the quick reply. As by my colleague mentioned above that we're unable to delete the inactive sales tax item in QuickBooks Desktop.

In the meantime, I suggest accessing the Sales tax Liability and Export the report to Excel. This way, you can exclude or remove the inactive Sales tax item so that it will not show on your end. For more information about exporting reports in QBDT, please visit this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

I can see the importance of this feature in your business. Rest assured, I'll personally submit feedback to our product developers so they will find a way on how to delete the inactive sales tax so that it will not appear in the reports.

To learn what's new in the product that can help your business, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog.
