Hi there, chriskn.

Let me show you how to rename an attachment in QuickBooks Online.

  1. In your QuickBooks Online, go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Attachments under Lists column.
  3. Under the Action column click on the drop-down icon.
  4. Select Edit button and enter the File Name.
  5. Verify the details and click on the Save button.

For your reference, you can check out: Attachments in QuickBooks Online.

Please comment below if you have questions in mind. I'm always ready to answer. Take care.

The response that was given was to rename the file which I do know how to do. With 1000's of attachments , I would like to be able to find them first (for eg a name I need to enter uploaded many months ago ) without scrolling through them all. That would mean a find feature which I do not see.

I'll help you in locating that attachment, chriskn.

The Attachments page has a sorting option. We can toggle the NAME column to sort the data in alphabetical order. I'll show you how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Under Lists column, select Attachments
  3. Click the NAME column to filter the data.
    • A downward arrow indicates that it's sorted from Z-A.
    • An upward arrow will filter the data from A-Z.
  4. Locate the attachments.
  5. Click the drop-down arrow in the ACTION column, then select Edit.
  6. Enter the new file name and notes.
  7. Hit Save when you're ready.

Aside from this sorting method, we can also press Ctrl + F  on your keyboard. This is the function in your browser or operating system that allows you to find words or phrases quickly. After pressing the keys, you'll just have to enter a keyword in the search bar then hit Enter.
