Unable to export to Excel

I am currently using Desktop Pro 2017 and upgraded my MS Office to Office 365. Since the upgrade I have been unable to export anything to Excel. I've repaired, updated, and reinstalled several times with no change. Can anyone please help me figure out why my Excel options are greyed out?

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Reinstalling Microsoft Office 365 and updating both Quickbooks and Office allowed me to export reports as Excel.

Please add this to the "Excel is Greyed Out" page and see if Tech Support can figure out what caused 32 bit to work when 64 bit didn't.

Thanks again for all the support today.

I tried clean installs, updating, disabling UAC, and restarting my computer. Nothing worked until I reinstalled MS Office as the 32 bit instead of 64 bit.

Thanks for checking in with us, nicblack01.

I want to make sure you'll be able to export everything into Excel. Let's get you back up and running.

It’s good you’ve performed some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Since you tried out all the possible troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, I recommend reverting the MS Office updates.

Once done, you can try exporting anything in your QuickBooks again.

This article is a good reference: Export option for Excel is grayed out.

I'm still here if anything may arise while exporting to Excel via QuickBooks Desktop.

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Would 32 bit VS 64 bit versions of Excel have any effect on whether I can export or not?

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Hello there, @nicblack01.

Thanks for getting back to us in the Community. Allow me to chime in for a moment and share some additional information about exporting to Excel.

No, it won't affect whether you can export or not. QuickBooks is capable of integrating Office 2010 and Office 2013/365 (including Outlook 2010 and 2013) both on 32 and 64 bit. However, if you have the web version of Office 365, you need to install it locally so that it'll be supported by QuickBooks.

You can also check out this article and scroll down to Software compatibility for more information: System requirements for QuickBooks 2017 and Enterprise Solutions 17.0. Once done, try to re-export your Excel files again to double-check.

That should get you pointed in the right direction. Please let me know how it goes or if you have any additional questions. I'm always here to answer them. Take care and enjoy the rest of the day!

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Is there anything after the re-installs I should be doing to ensure that Quickbooks recognizes I have Excel installed?

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Thanks for getting back to us, Nic.

You might want to reboot your computer after doing all the troubleshooting steps that RoseMarjorie and Fritz provided earlier. This will help us refresh your Windows system and QuickBooks components.

We got your back if you have follow-up questions about this.

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Thank you all for helping me as I go through this. None of the suggestions have worked so far, but at least we're ruling them out. Currently trying to uninstall 64 bit Office and installing the 32 bit version.

Re: Unable to export to Excel

OMG. You’ve been through the same foolishness. Installing 32 bit Office 365 worked for me too - thanks to you. No need to change the user access control or repair or reinstall.

I had four calls to QB pro advisor hotline and they convinced me QB Desktop wouldn’t work with Office 365. Hmmm it has been working for 2 years. Out of desperation I actually bought a stand-alone Office 2016 licence with no luck.

I agee with your comment - QB needs to update its responses online, train the phone tech support but also explain why 64 bit stopped working.

Thank heavens for individual contributors like you.

Thanks for joining the conversation, @thenerd.

Office 2019 is not yet compatible. It's one of the possible reasons why you encounter this error message. The following are the supported programs at this time:

  • Office 2016 on both 32 and 64-bit.
  • Office 2010 and 2013.
  • Office 365.
  • Outlook 2010-2016.

You may check out this article for more information: System requirements for QuickBooks 2018 and Enterprise Solutions 18.0

In the meantime, I recommend rolling back to your old Office version in order to export the report to Excel successfully.

That should do it. Let me know if this works out for you. I’m ready to help if you need anything else. Have a good one!

Re: Unable to export to Excel

We just upgraded to QB 2019 Premier, Manufacturing module. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH OFFICE 2016, 64-bit. Prior versions of QB worked with Office 2016, 64-bit.

Tech team...you are holding up productivity with this breakdown in functionality. Get us a fix, PLEASE!!

Re: Unable to export to Excel

Ah Ha....so we fixed it. Unchecked the boxes in the Advanced tab for Excel options and then exported. That worked quickly and slick. Then went back and rechecked the boxes for the Excel options we want and exported to Excel again. That worked, and has continued to work.
