Under "Type" in the item section under sales, I only have two options: Service or Non-Product. The Non-product category doesn't allow me to track inventory, please advise

Go check in your Setup that you have Inventory turned on.  It's quite possible that your company is currently only set up to provide Services.

 

In Setup under Sales click on the Pencil and change the settings for Inventory.

Hi there, @tyler-gonder.

 

@PeteMc is correct that you have to turn on the inventory feature for you to use it. And I would like to add more information.

 

The inventory tracking feature is only available for QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus. If you're using Simple Start or Essentials, I recommend upgrading your current version.

 

Follow these steps to upgrade our version:

  1. Click on the Gear icon, choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Click on Billing and Subscription.
  3. Under QuickBooks, click on Upgrade now beside your current version.

Here are the steps in turning on the inventory tracking feature:

  1. Click on the Gear icon, choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Click on Sales.
  3. Under Products and Services, tick on the Track inventory quantity on hand box.
  4. Click on Save.
