When recording an expense, in the catagory drop down menu, why are none of the catagories displaying all of a sudden? They still show in the chart of accounts.

I am using Quickbooks Online. All of my sales and services catagories are still showing up.

Hi, @mail32.

Thank you for raising your concern here on the Community page. I can help you record an expense transaction with the desired categories in QuickBooks Online.

Usually, unusual behavior while working with QuickBooks Online is caused by too much cache stored on the regular browser you're using. To isolate the issue, I recommend opening QuickBooks through a private window and record an expense from there. This browser prevents any virus infections that can cause unexpected behavior when using QuickBooks.

To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

If the categories work fine, I suggest going back to your regular browser and clear its cache to start fresh.

Moreover, you can also use other supported browsers to narrow down the result.

For additional tips when managing your expenses in QBO, I recommend opening this article: Enter and manage expenses in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted with the result. I want to make sure this is resolved for you. Thanks for coming to the Community, keep safe always!

Thank you for the suggestion.  I skipped the checking and went straight to clearing the cache.  It worked.  It was just confusing because the products and services would still show for the invoices.

Thank you again for your help.
