Register balance and chart of account balance does not match.

I click on company, chart of accounts, and I can see bank balances, and those are always wrong, but when I click on the bank account and the register opens, I see my real balance.  This also creates an issue when I am paying bills because it shows the chart of accounts balance decreasing as i pay them and that is not the actual balance. Why dont these amounts match ever? I have added a picture of exactly what I see when I open chart of accounts & my registers.

Register balance and chart of account balance does not match.

Try edit>resort list with your chart of accounts open, if that doesn't do it run file>utilities>verify data and rebuild if prompted.

what does verify data and rebuild do? I just dont want to make something worse...

resort just changed the order the chart of accounts was in, it didnt do anything to that balance issue.

Thank you so much. The rebuild data worked! I have been looking at this problems for over a year now..I was just really scared to rebuild data not knowing what that would really do... Thanks so much!

Register balance and chart of account balance does not match.

My client file I have been using for years all of sudden now shows 0 in Chart balance and not shown on the balance sheet, yet the register shows the correct balance.  Did a rebuild (as I typically conduct in weird cases like this) and it fixed the problem for 2 days and this morning problem back.  Any of my Pro Advisor colleagues experience this?

Let me clarify things about the errors you've received and help you from there, @del10.

 

Did the errors prompt after verifying your company file data? If so, let's proceed with rebuilding your data to get this fixed. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Click Rebuild Data.
  3. Select OK once the rebuild has completed.
