I have a major project underway.  I have started filtering my reports for specific accounts.  My question is:

How do I include my payroll into this report?  I want to show that EX: John worked last week on the retaining wall and I want to show that in the report.

Hi there, cab21.

To ensure that we're on the same page, can you tell me what report you're trying to filter. This way, I'll be able to provide you an accurate solution to your issue/concern.

If you want to view the jobs done by your employees, you can pull up the Time by Job Detail report to show the time for each customer by activity and the employee who performed that work for a specified date range. Here's how:

  1. Select Reports from the top menu bar.
  2. Go to Jobs, Time & Mileage.
  3. Choose Time by Job Detail.
  4. Set the appropriate reporting date.

You may export this report and the one you're currently filtering to an Excel spreadsheet by clicking the Excel button. This way, you'll be able to further manipulate and combine the data.

Additionally, feel free to read these articles to help speed up the reporting process in QuickBooks Desktop:

I'll be right here to continue assisting if you have any other concerns or report-related questions. Just add the details in the comment section and I'll get back to you.

I have a CIP account for road infrastructure.  When I filter my report I include the CIP account plus expense accounts. EX:  gas, meals, professional fees, construction plans etc.  What I am trying to do is add the payroll to this report for example John is paid a salary for the week.  That week John did excavation work.  How do I get John's payroll for excavation to show up in the report?

Good morning, @cab21

Thanks for reaching back out to the Community. It's my priority that you're able to get back on track with your business by adding payroll to your report.

To properly assist you with this problem, can you provide me with the name of the report? This will allow me to determine the best solution for you and your business.

However, in the meantime, I suggest customizing your report to help filter it more. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Locate and pick the report.
  3. Hit Customize report

It's that easy.

I want to ensure that you get an answer to your question. After I receive the information needed, I'll be able to give you a solution to your issue. The Community is always here to have your back. I'll be waiting for your response.

Thanks for the details, @cab21.

I'm here to help guide you on how to pull up the report you need in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can run and customized the Payroll Summary report. This report also shows the gross wages of your employee's paycheck and the total breakdown. Let me walk you through the steps:

  1. Go to Reports at the top.
  2. Select Employees & Payroll.
  3. Choose Payroll Summary
  4. Click the Customize button and filter the necessary details.
  5. Click Refresh

For additional reference, you can check these articles to learn more about the payroll summary report:

It’s also great to save the current settings of your report. That way, you won’t have to go to the customization process again in case you need the same information in the future.

In case you want to add some information, you can export the report through an Excel file. For more details, click this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

Don't hesitate to tag my name in the comment section below if you have other concerns or questions. I'm always ready to help. Have a great day and stay safe.
