Restricted Equity Accounts

Seems like something might have changed in QB Desktop, but I need to create a Detailed transaction report for a Non profit(Church) that breaks out by Class(Person on Mission Trip) within a Restricted Project Equity account.  I used to be able to get the balance forward from the previous year to show on the report by Class, so I can show how much more the person has to raise to be able to go on the mission trip.  Right now if someone raised funds in 2018, but is not going on the trip until 2019, I have to run the report from 1/1/18 through YTD 2019.  This gives me the amounts I want, but gives me all of the transaction details also for the people who went on last years trip.  Any help?

As long as you use the correct customization and filters in running your Transaction Detail by Class report, you’ll be able to view the specific information you want to be included on the report. I’m here to take this opportunity to furnish you with ways to fix this unusual behavior of the program.


To start with, ensure that QuickBooks is updated to the latest version.  Once verified and you're still unable to get the specific report you need, lets perform verify and rebuild in your company file to isolate any potential company data damage.


To verify the data

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Choose Verify Data.
  4. If the Verify Data pop-up window appears, just click OK.

To rebuild the data

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. QuickBooks will prompt you to create a backup copy, click OK.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the backup. You can check out our guide on how to create a backup for reference.
  6. Once the process is complete, click View issues.
  7. Close the QuickBooks Verify/Rebuild Results window.
