Buy nowI'm running a sales by item detail report and I'm filtering for a specific class, but it is only pulling the sales data for invoices where a class has been selected. Some of my invoices don't have a class selected because some of the invoiced items contain items that are applicable to multiple classes. One example would be labor, when recording labor I have personnel who are part of the class and some that aren't so I selected the appropriate class when recording the hours in the weekly timesheet. However, when running the report and filtering the class those employees hours aren't showing up.
I should also add, we just started trying out the class field recently. The timesheets where we added the specific class, the invoice and labor had already been invoiced prior so we are going back to the timesheet and adding the class after it has already been imported to the invoice via the 'add time/costs' button'. I'm thinking maybe that might have something to do with it.
Any help is appreciated.
Welcome to the Community, @dickinson. I got your back to ensure you'll be able to run a report that will also show the employee's hours in QuickBooks.
Thanks for sharing details about your issue. This really helps me to come up with a solution to resolve it. First off, let me discuss some details on how you can perform the task.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), sales report such as Sales by Item Detail only shows information related to customers, items, sales reps, pending sales, and sales orders. That's the reason you can only see the data for invoices where a class has been selected.
That said, you'll want to run a separate report to view your employee hours and the class assigned to them. To do so, access the Time by Job Detail report. Here's how:
For more information about the data displayed in various reports in your program, feel free to check out this article: Understand reports.
Additionally, here’s an awesome resource you can access to help you memorize the changes made to a report: Create, access and modify memorized reports.
If you have further concerns about running class reports in QBDT, don't hesitate to post again here. I'd also appreciate any updates on how the steps go. Please know that I'm always ready to lend a hand to ensure your goal is achieved. Have a great week ahead.

Yes, when you update time records after they're invoiced, the invoices aren't changed.
However, you can go back to the invoices and add the desired classes to invoice line items, both the time and most any other items, except items like subtotals which don't appear on reports in any case.
