Join nowI enrolled with EFTPS.gov, and am set up to efile/epay. When i populated the 941 in Payroll, and tried to efile, Quickbooks asked for a 10 digit PIN i received when i enrolled with EFTPS. I didn't receive a 10 digit PIN. I received a 4 digit PIN.
Greetings, @wallacedh.
It's nice to have you in the Community. I'll be happy to help share some insight about e-filing federal forms like 941 in QuickBooks Desktop.
The 4-digit PIN and the Internet Password you get after your enrollment to EFTPS are used for your tax payments. Both credentials are required when e-paying your 940 and 941/944. You may check this article for additional reference about paying federal taxes through e-pay: E-pay in QuickBooks Desktop.
On the other hand, the 10-digit E-file PIN is obtained after enrolling to the E-file services. IRS will provide you a 10-digit PIN that you need to enter when you e-file federal forms in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please take note that you need to enroll in the IRS e-file program once only. If you have e-filed Federal Forms 940, 941 and 944 before using other channels or services, then you're already enrolled.
However, if you haven't enrolled in e-file yet, I recommend checking the following articles for the detailed steps to register, as well as submitting the federal forms through this feature:
After the enrollment, you'll receive a letter from the IRS with the 10 digit pin (unless rejected) within 7-10 banking days, and a Statement of Receipt. Sign the Statement of Receipt and mail it back to activate the PIN.
That should point you in the right direction today. Keep me posted if you have additional questions about the E-file 10 digit pin or about sending payroll forms in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help you out. Have a great day ahead.
i HAVE THE SAME QUESTION I HAVE A 4 DIGIT PIN # BUT WHEN I WANT TO EFILE THE 941 FORMS TO THE IRS ITS ASKING FOR A 10 DIGIT PIN # PLESE PROVIDE ME WITH THAT
Good Afternoon, @HAYDEBI.
Thanks for joining in on this thread.
After you enroll in the E-filing services, then you'll get your 10-digit PIN just like my colleague stated in the post above. This PIN will be provided by the IRS. If you haven't received this PIN, then I recommend contacting the IRS E-filing services at 866-255-0654 so that you can request the status of your application.
Note: After enrolling, you should receive this PIN within 7-10 business days by a letter from the IRS.
If you haven't enrolled yet, check out these links that can give helpful information on how to register and submit the federal forms:
Let me know if this helps. It's my priority that you're able to get this 10-digit PIN to submit your federal forms. Bye for now!
I already have a 10 digit PIN, how do I enter it into Quickbooks. When I try to Efile the 941 it just insists that it wants to request the 10 digit pin from the IRS, but I already have one. I don't want to submit the form to apply for a PIN, I just need to be able to enter the PIN into the system. Please advise.

Let me help you with this, @KarenM-CPA,
Let's try to toggle the filing method so you can enter the 10-digit PIN in QuickBooks. Here's how:
After that, go back and file the 941 for again. When you click the E-file option, you'll get the window where you can input the 10-digit PIN. See this:
If you're still unable to input the PIN there, I recommend contacting our Technical Team. You can reach them through chat or messaging. Make sure to enable pop-up windows on your browser settings to launch the chat box and connect with our live agents.
To reach us, follow the steps below:
Another option to contact us is through the web. Here's how:
Kindly update me on how this goes. I'll be right here if you need anything else. Have a good one!
