transfer entries to new company file

I started a new QB company file. It's the same company.  How do I transfer checks not yet cashed? Just re-enter or are they in the trial balance?

Do I enter all of the amounts from the trial balance list into same accounts I have set up in the new company file?

Thanks.

transfer entries to new company file

Hi there, @heazim1.

Let me help transfer entries to your new company file so you can get back to working order.

Just to clarify, are you trying to create a new company file from existing ones? If so, you don't need to from scratch. You'll just need to copy and use accounts, lists (customers, vendors, items, etc.), templates, and preferences from an existing company file to get started. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop and the company file you want to copy.
  2. Press F2 to open the Product Information window.
  3. Look in the File Information section. This shows where your company file is saved on your computer.
  4. If you haven’t already, follow the steps to back up your company file.
  5. Use the backup to restore your company file.
  6. Rename the file when you restore it. This creates a unique copy of your original company file. Save the new file to a unique folder.

Once done, you'll now have two separate company files. I'm adding this article for more guidance: Create new company files from existing ones in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you just want to transfer the check entries on your new company file, you can export and import them. Let me guide you how.

  1. Log in to the original company file as the admin.
  2. Make sure you’re in a Single-user Mode when transferring the transactions and list.
  3. Select the File menu, then choose Utilities and Export.
  4. Click Lists to IIF Files to open the Export window.
  5. Select the box for Checks, then click OK.
  6. Enter a name in the File name box and pick the location you want to save it.
  7. Press the Save button.

After exporting it, you can now import it to your new company file. You can read this article for the detailed steps and information: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance transferring entries to your new company file. Wishing you all the best, @heazim1.

@heazim1

You can utilize a migration tool. Run TPExporter on the source file and TPImporter on the target file.
