Unable to Open Reports

I have made several custom reports and went back into them at a later time and they do not open.  This happened a few months ago and I thought we had fixed the issue after IT talked with QB on the phone.  It now happened again today, I updated several reports and saved them under new names and they will not open today. Has anyone else ever had this issue and how did you resolve it and prevent it from happening in the future.  The only way to get my reports back is by re creating them from scratch.  Thanks

Unable to Open Reports

It's nice to see you here, @kfrem,

Thanks for visiting the Community today. I can share some information so you can open your saved reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're unable to open your saved or Memorized reports in QuickBooks, it's possible that your report list is damaged or corrupted. To fix this, you'll need to Re-sort your list. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reportmenu.
  2. Click Memorized Reports, then hit Memorized Reports List.
  3. Tap the Memorized Report drop-down and select Re-sort List.
  4. Select OK on the prompt.

If this does not resolve the issue. Let's try running the Verify/Rebuild Utility to fix data issues within the program. Here are the steps:

To Verify Data:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Tap Utilities then Verify Data.
  3. Click OK on the prompt.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Go to Utilities and select Rebuild Data.
  3. Hit OK to back up your company file.
  4. Wait until the Rebuild is complete.
  5. Click View Results.

That should get you right back on track. If you need further assistance about this or have any questions with QuickBooks, please let me know in the comments. Have a wonderful week!

Unable to Open Reports

I went through all of the suggested steps, and still had some reports now that will not open.  This function is useless if we continue to create reports that do not open again.

Unable to Open Reports

Hi kfrem,

It would be my pleasure to lend a hand with your concern about the memorized reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I need some additional information to determine what's causing the issue to happen on your end. Can you share with me what happens when opening the report? Does it show an error message or just as nothing happens?

Since my colleague has already provided the necessary troubleshooting, the next thing we can do is repair your QuickBooks program. This feature help fix any program-related errors like not being able to open memorized reports.

If you need the detailed steps for the repair process, please refer to the article I'm adding below:

Fix QuickBooks Desktop (Windows).

Keep in touch with me here should you need additional help with opening the reports. I'll keep an eye out for your response.

Nothing happens.  The cursor doesn't change to the busy icon, an error message doesn't appear.  Nothing changes.  I tried repairing Quickbooks, but I still had reports that would not open this morning.  I created new ones so maybe since I created them after the repair, they will be ok?  I will wait and see.

Hi @kfrem,

It's nice to know that you tried the fix provided by my colleague above. Repairing your QuickBooks should get your memorized reports to load properly.

I'll attach an article here for more information about your memorized reports.

Please keep me posted of the results upon repairing your QuickBooks. I'll be sure to help you.

Unable to Open Reports

I am using Quickbooks desktop 2020 trial version. I imported my desktop 2009 into it.

I cannot open or generate any reports.

Why is this?

Thanks for joining this thread, FIHP.

The location of the company file may not exist or is empty, and that's why you're unable to open any reports. Make sure to display hidden files and folders so QuickBooks can find the folder in the path.

If the same issue persists, you can perform the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague in this thread. If none of the solutions resolve the this, I highly suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. They can further investigate why you're unable to open any reports.

To contact them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Continue.
  5. Select Start messaging to connect with a support expert.

Just a heads up, support for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll is currently limited to chat only due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Let me know how the chat goes or if there's anything else I can help you with today. Just tag my name and I'll get back to you.

Unable to Open Reports

Thank you but this seems to pertain only to Windows users?

I'm on Mac desktop.

I also tried going to Help, but that is not working either.

I am using the 30 day trial version.

Could this be why?

I want to make sure it works for my needs before purchasing.

Thank you
