I've got your back, @karen15.

Recording the sell of a product or service as a charitable donation requires a handful of preemptive steps, but I'd be more than happy to guide you through them below. Each of the steps will include an article or resource to ensure your success with the entire process:

Donation of Products or Services you Usually Sell

  1. Create an Invoice transaction for the item you'll be selling for charity. This is important to keeping your income in balance.
  2. Make a new ledger account for Charitable Contributions. This can be used for all instances of these sales in the future.
  3. Create a new product/service item called Charitable Contributions. This item helps to offset the money movement from the Invoice in Step 1.
  4. Issue a Credit Memo to the customer. This transaction represents the actual donation and its amount.
  5. Verify the Credit Memo is attached to the Invoice from Step 1 to properly close the transaction. The video tutorial below is sure to be of help with this:

All of this information and more can also be found in our guide on recording charitable donations here. Please feel free to keep in touch with me here if there's anything you need, I want to ensure your success. Thanks for dropping in, wishing you and your business a phenomenal 2019 ahead.
