We efiled a 1099NEC for a contractor who changed his address. QB provided me info on notifying the IRS of a correction. But is that necessary if only an address change?

Just wondering if all this is necessary if it's only a contractor address change, or do we just correct in our system moving forward?

Hello, marc34. 

 

Yes, any changes made to your contractor need to file an amendment to the IRS directly. 
 

Here's how to file a manual amendment: 

 

  1. Order 1099-MISC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns or over the phone at 800.829.3676.
  2. Fill out the 1099-MISC form ,and be sure to select the Corrected checkbox.
  3. Mail the form to the IRS.
  4. Mail the recipient copy to your contractor as soon as possible so that they can file their taxes.

Hi Ailene, do you mean order a 1099-NEC? (We did not file a 1099-MISC.) I just need to make a single correction. Is there any way to fill out the 1099-NEC form online or as a completable PDF, print and send to IRS and the recipient? I'd rather avoid ordering a bunch of forms online that we'll never use.  Thanks, Marc
