Where Has Filter By Client gone, Purchases reports?

Up to about a week ago, I was able to run a Purchases by Product/Service report and filter it to the customer I'm invoicing, so that I have a compact simple list to cross-check purchases with estimates, and accurately bill my clients.  A week ago Customer disappeared as a Filter.  Is this an error--is it coming back?

This is an obvious field for reports sorting, not something obscure I'm trying to filter on.  I don't understand why Quickbooks Online processes and features that are helpful and working suddenly disappear with no notification.  I don't understand why there's no accessible change log that tells us what has been changed behind the scenes as it happens.  I just don't understand.

We aim for you to run your purchase reports conveniently, @greensman. I, too, wanted to make things easier, especially in running financial reports.

Rest assured, I can provide you with a workaround and achieve the desired outcome using the Sales by Product/Service Detail Report, filtered by customers.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Enter 'Sales by Product/Service Detail Report' in the Search field.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Select Filter, then tick 'Customer'.
  5. In the dropdown menu, choose the customer/s you want to apply the filter.
  6. Lastly, hit 'Run report'.

On the other hand, using the Purchases by Product/Service Detail Report can still provide your customer's name by adding it to the columns.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports.
  2. In the Search field, enter Purchases by Product/Service Detail Report.
  3. Select Columns.

  4. Tick Customer.

Additionally, you can customize your reports in QuickBooks Online. You may refer to the article provided for guidance.

Lastly, you may also memorize your reports. This page has more subtopics to help you manage your reports.

Should you encounter challenges, please respond to this thread or explore our detailed guide articles. Your success is important to us, and we're here to support you every step of the way in mastering QuickBooks Online. We look forward to hearing about your progress!

@CharmieH  RE: This is not the experience we want you to have, @greensman.

Of course it is. It's what Intuit delivered to customers, so by definition it is exactly the experience you want them to have.

Thank you for replying. I know you as the responder to my question are not responsible for this and are just doing your job.  I have submitted "Feedback" on this situation, just like with past problems.

Your solution below is exactly what the help desk sent 6 months ago when I first encountered this problem, then later Quickbooks made a change and I was able to filter on customer successfully, and now that that option is once again gone, you have sent me the same solution: 1.  Try running a report for Sales (I don't want a report of sales, I want a report of purchases so that I can INVOICE a sale . . ), and 2. Run a report that then has to be sent to Excel and modified to get to a clean version of my desired report, which is not a time saver (as QBO promotes itself), but a time increaser.

Quickbooks online as compared to the desktop version has increased the amount of time it takes to do my daily work by 50%, and without warning or explanation reverting back to past illogical restrictions like this one only makes things harder.  I'm searching for a new accounting software solution.

Accounting in a browser is I think a stupid idea. It seems obvious that it'll never be as fast, intuitive, and feature rich as a native Windows desktop program. Why Intuit can't see this after 20 years of trying to make QuickBooks Online a reasonably-usable offering is anyone's guess.
