Where is Reconciliation Discrepancies expense account assignment?

When reconciling a checking account an option is having QB create a journal entry to a "Reconciliation Discrepancies expense account."  Does anyone know how to change/edit the GL account QB uses for this function?

Where is Reconciliation Discrepancies expense account assignment?

Hello there, MCSTUBBS.

The Reconciliation Discrepancies account is an expense type that QuickBooks automatically adds to your chart of accounts. It is used when you enter an adjustment to reconcile small accounting discrepancies. We use it to track all reconciliation differences.

We can drill down to the report to open the General Journal and look into the affected accounts. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Accountant menu and click Chart of Accounts
  2. Search for Reconciliation Discrepancies and double-click it.
  3. Then, double-click the General Journal you want to open.
  4. Right-click on the General Journal from the opened register.
  5. Click Edit General Journal

From there, you can see the affected accounts used.

Here are a few articles that will help you in the reconciliation process:

I'll be around if you need anything else.

How do I change the account?  In my case, Reconciliation Discrepancies are being posted to GL account 65000.  How would I change that to 65100?

That's the account number that you can edit. Let me show you the easy steps:

  1. Go to your Chart of Accounts (Ctrl + A).
  2. Look and right-click on the Reconciliation Discrepancies account.
  3. Click Edit Account
  4. At the upper-right of the window, change the Number field to 65000
  5. Select Save & Close
